So many wonderful things to say about the hotel. However, the most important part of the experience are the people. Incredibly friendly, helpful and eager to please. Even when they’re very busy, when you try and talk to them you’re greeted with a big, honest smile. The food is absolutely incredible. Beyond something one would expect from a 3-star hotel. Every meal is something to look forward to. The organisation is impeccable. Kudos to everyone who is involved with the hotel in any way, you are all a part of many small miracles that happen here every day. Thank you for the best vacation my family and I had in years. If not ever.

Our prime reason for choosing Rabac was to meet daily with family members who were staying close by. We searched UK holiday companies for a hotel close to the main resort facilities and preferably offering B&B. In the event we booked, with TUI, a superior twin room with balcony and part sea view at the Sunny, on half board, which changed to full board before we arrived. We were allocated a room in the self-contained Miramar, across the road from the main hotel. We had breakfast and several lunches in the Miramar dining room but eat out each evening. Had we dined in the evening we were allocated a slot of 20.00 to 21.00, which struck me as tight, especially if buying drinks from the bar to consume with the meal. The Sunny is aimed squarely at families with young children, something akin to JUFA hotels in Austria and Germany. Based purely on our experience of the Miramar, it isn't relaxing for an older couple, albeit the pool was generally quiet in the mornings, with plenty of good sunloungers and sunshades readily available. Public areas to relax with a drink are very limited. Mealtimes were hectic and at their busiest manic, with screaming children contributing to the hubbub. We didn't have any problem with the quality, quantity and variety of food at breakfast and lunch. Contrary to many reviews, our room contained a new, free to use safe, and we considered that and the good aircon a real bonus. The room had been brightened up with new paint, new shelving and hanging space for storage. It was just big enough to contain the large, comfortable bed and a sofabed. A fairly sizeable balcony, with 2 chairs and a small table, had a nice sea view. The old shower cabinet was spacious but the shower unit was decrepit, with water spurting out of the hose and the tray draining slowly and filling with water. Maintenance seemed lacking. The bed headboard was dirty and needed repainting. The clothes dryer on the balcony was broken and unusable. One of the coat pegs was hanging out of the wall. Room cleaning was variable and we were not the only clients searching for a cleaner to get a new toilet roll. The hotel is built on a steep hill. It's around 150m down to the seafront promenade, which is good and runs in both directions. Turning right at the bottom you can walk past a plethora of gift shops, bars and restaurants and continue for perhaps 1.5km to an extensive, stony beach by the auto campsite. There is a small supermarket about 150m up the steep hill from the hotel. It took us 40 minutes to check in because the receptionist insisted on receiving confirmation that we had paid TUI, despite having all the information on her Valamar IT system. I had to press TUI hard to get confirmation that this was unnecessary. They eventually said they would take it up with the hotel but I haven't heard more. Indeed, TUI seemed pretty disorganised. We were told our pick-up for return to the airport would be at the hotel. When the bus failed to arrive, I phoned TUI and it eventually transpired that we had to drag our luggage up the steep hill to find the minibus parked at the side of a road.
