“Bug problem”

With so many resorts to choose from do NOT choose this one! I have about 200 bites on my legs that are itchy and swollen. With so many resorts to choose from do NOT choose this one! I have about 200 bites on my legs that are itchy and swollen. They do not spray at this resort and even the DEET spray I brought after reading reviews did not stop me from getting bites. Who knows if these are sand flea bites or bug bites from lobby/buffet but not once did I ever actually see a bug on me biting. I had to get a RX for relief as nothing over the counter seems to be helping after a week. My friend had to get an oral antibiotic because the bites became so infected and could not work for a week. Meanwhile my daughter had not one bite! These bites are not like the bites you get at home. From our group about half had these bites and half did not. The premium renovated rooms are very nice. Great wifi in the rooms but nowhere else on the resort. Beach was pretty and sandy but super crowded. If you are on the sand closer to water you will have vendors approach you about 3 times per hour. I was told these are reps from the resort. At 6am people would claim all the pool chairs. By 8am most of the beach chairs are claimed. Buffet food was decent you always found something to eat. Fav restaurant by far was the Mexican restaurant Tequila. Again with so many resorts to choose from this one should be avoided based on the bug problem!

I'm conflicted in this review, there was good and bad, overall we went there for the sun and fun and relaxation, mission accomplished Some bad comments: - we went into the room (37302), the first thing my wife sees is a bare footprint in the tub, lets say, it did not go well for me at the start. - the tub did not drain properly - I called the front desk and they came to clean the tub and fix it. - shower was not to par, water was very light. I'm not entirely fussy on this, but a good shower speaks volumes. - MOSQUITOES - Christ!, I thought where I live was bad in the summer, but let me tell you....bring mosquito repellent, luckily I brought some, but at the cost of a litre of blood the first night. And don't expect to buy it there - anywhere from 8 USD to 33USD for a small bottle. - place is really busy, we were at the same resort in 2018 and it wasn't this bad. - trying to get a lounge chair anywhere, is a chore, we like the beach. You need to get up at 6am everyday to save a spot, otherwise you are out of luck. - there are two buffets at the front of the resort, one smells very bad with sewer gas, we ate at the second one, except for the first time eating. Some good comments: - the staff is very friendly and they work hard trying to keep everything clean - the food was very good, plentiful and a large variety. (Although the white - house wine was terrible!) - the beach was clean - the accommodations were clean and comfortable - the service was good - entertainment was good - the villages was overall fine, a few thing to do there also. Overall, I'm not sure if I would go here again. I like the Bahia Principe, but this resort was just too busy, although we did enjoy ourselves in the end.
