Super location. Walking distance to everything you want and need to see in Rethymno. You are close to all things and shopping in Old Town. It’s located in the center of the city so the only parking is a lot across the street for 10 euro a night. You pay Manolis in adavnce. We checked in with Georgia. We were given a beautiful room on the top 3rd floor that had the largest balcony. I’m sure that it was an upgrade. From the balcony I witnessed a sunrise and sunset in the same day. Efharisto! Room was very comfortable and very quiet. It was a very relaxing stay. Room had plenty of hangars. There was no room safe. 2 bottles of water were given to us each day. There is a nice size pool, and game area that included ping-pong. Breakfast was just okay. It’s in a dimly lit room with no windows. Tables were dressed up nice but it was not very pleasing to the eye to be in such a place. Food was just okay. They did have Bougatsa, which is one of my favorites. For a person who has a Bachelor’s, a Master’s and a Doctorate, I could not get the hot water to work. Very difficult. Bathroom was very small and had no room for toiletries. Housekeeping was very nice and cordial. All in all it was a great stay and I would stay here again.

This was our third visit to the Fortezza. We were given a lovely welcome by staff who were here last year. We like the rooms on the street side, as they have shade both in the morning and afternoon. We like a cup of tea on the balcony before breakfast. There is a supermarket just over the road for any drinks or snacks. The rooms have a fridge to keep anything cold. On the days we stayed at the hotel, we did not have trouble getting sun beds. The snack bar was great for a very late breakfast, serving bacon and eggs. The reception staff are very helpful, as are all staff we met. Looking forward to seeing you all again next year.

Fabulous hotel in the centre of the old town. The staff are exceptional, nothing was too much trouble. Everything was in walking distance, restaurants ,cafes and bars are down cobbled sidestreets . The port was 100 yards from the front door, the bus station was 15 minutes from the hotel, buses every hour to Chania. There's a supermarket across the road which was very convenient. We must give a special mention to Liberty who was behind the bar and made a mean Rakirinha !!

“Beautifully located compact hotel”
We loved this hotel. It’s beautifully located in the shadow of the fort towards the quieter atmospheric side of Rethymno old town. Very nice rooms and balconies, lovely pool, great breakfast. Just the right size, big enough to have good facilities, small enough to feel like home.

Our second stay at this lovely hotel was again excellent! When we arrived late at night we were initially disappointed to have been allocated a room facing the street, rather than poolside. However, by the next day we decided we preferred it, because it was always in the shade which meant sitting out on the balcony was very comfortable and the room was never too hot either. Also, excellent opportunity for people watching. The room was comfortable, if a little small, particularly the bathroom, but for used to that quickly. As before, everywhere was spotlessly clean, and the hotel staff the friendliest we ever encountered anywhere. They also remembered us from last year, which was nice, and went out of their way to assist with requests. We were particularly grateful for getting a day room on our last day, for a very reasonable amount, as we had a very late checkout. Breakfast was delicious, a lot of choice of many freshly prepared items, with staff working hard to continually replacing items during the busy breakfast period, while taking time to exchange a few words, and always smiling. The pool was lovely too, with plenty of loungers and other seating opportunities and we enjoyed our daily lunch there. Pool towels are provided. Guests during our stay were a mix of mainly Dutch, German and Brits, many repeaters, mostly aged 50 plus, and it was always nice and quiet. Location of hotel is great, everything on your doorstep, just next to the harbour, lots of cafes and restaurants, and 2 minutes from the fortress, with the main stretch of beach about 1km away. All in all, another great stay and yes, we are sure to return again.
