A very beautiful hotel facing the Aegean Sea. We were accommodated with an early check-in, which was very appreciated. Our 1BR suite had a magnificent balcony that faced the water. The entire unit was clean and well appointed. After being on the road for 2 weeks it was wonderful to just stay in for the evening and prepare a home cooked meal. The outdoor pool area is clean and towels are found at the front check in desk. There is also an indoor pool and whirlpool located within the spa area. Breakfast was spectacular! So many options and nice signage explaining the food items and what was typical Cretan. There is also a very beautiful rooftop restaurant, although I did not have the opportunity to eat there. It’s also a quick 10 min walk from the bus station and very easy walk to the Old Town. It would have been lovely to spend more than 1 night!

Recently returned from a 10 day family holiday at the Macaris Suites. Firstly without asking we were upgraded to a two bedroom suite which was fantastic as our 18 year old son is 6ft 3 and was not looking forward to the usual sofa bed! The suite was massive with a great kitchen, big bathroom and one of the bedrooms having an en-suite shower. There was also a huge balcony with a table and chairs plus a separate outdoor sofa and comfy chairs, all brilliant for relaxing having a drink while looking at the fab views over the sea front and fort! The hotel is immaculately clean ( rooms cleaned everyday) and staff are lovely, friendly and a credit to the hotel. Facilities are good, great pool area with very comfortable sun beds and a great bar next to the pool area. The spa is good and there is a room with a multi gym and a few other machines in it ( for info if wanting a better gym there is ‘Ocean gym’ across the road which can be visited for €7 a day) The hotel also has a great roof top bar and terrace with fantastic views. Only little negatives re the hotel is as mentioned by others there are some steps up to the front of it, they are steep if you have mobility issues and if being dropped or picked up by coach you are dropped off on the main road below ! All in all I’d have no hesitation recommending or returning to Macaris suites it’s a great hotel with fab rooms and great staff. Tips re Rethymno it’s a brilliant place, with never ending quality restaurants and bars, restaurants we enjoyed were Achinos ( in the harbour, great quality, best pre booked as do two sitting 7:30 and 9;30) . La Boheme which is in the back streets of the old town and has a lovely courtyard setting and the owner is a great character. Cavo, which is one of 4 restaurants when you turn left out of the hotel, bit more expensive but beautiful sea front setting with top quality service and food. It’s also worth trying the city bus tour, €17 for a day ticket but goes all round the town and into the countryside, hop on and off at a Monestry, military museum etc, we got off at the gorge for a bit of a hike which was fab. Thoroughly enjoyable holiday at a great hotel and resort.

Just come to the end of a wonderful 2 weeks at the macaris suites. There are pro's and cons as with any hotel. Pro's The rooms are beautiful,we were upgraded to a two bedroom apartment which was lovely. Big modern balcony and views beautiful. The rooms are spotlessly clean and everything you need for your stay. Staff at the macaris are faultless they are friendly helpful and definitely all look like they love there job. The spa is an added bonus lovely and free. The pool area is lovely and clean and the bar snacks are really good. Cons Steps up to the hotel if you arrive by coach are challenging but so worth it when you get there. A little way out of town if your not mobile however only 6 euro in a taxi. Overall a fab holiday. Rethymnons old town is a delight, full of quaint little side streets with loads of shops and some of the best restaurants we have been to in Greece.

Generally we had a good stay here finding it mainly quiet and relaxing, although there were not many guests about which was probably due to the timing of our holiday. The hotel was very clean and the staff friendly and helpful. The one bedroom suite had plenty of room and a well equipped kitchen we made use of, although there is no microwave, which would have been a benefit. The gratis fruit, water bottles and small bottle of wine in our room on arrival was a pleasing surprise. The balcony sea-view was great and just what we wanted, and it's only a steady 15 min walk to the Rethymno old town. We didn't use the spa facilities, but did use the outdoor pool which is quite sheltered from the high winds experienced for two of the days, but got enough sun for the sun-worshipers. We had no complaints as such but make some observations that are not mentioned in the holiday package or hotel details... The bus transfer from the airport (Heraklion) is about 1 & half to 2 hours depending on other drop offs. The bus dropped us at the main road side below the hotel location that is in an elevated position from the road (about three storeys) and there is a choice of several stairways, two steep one more graduated, and a side road to ascend, although we could not see all of these when we arrived in the dark. The hotel provides for accessibility with ramps and lifts, but to note the winding ramp from the side road to the front door is steep. On arrival we were made aware of some road works which passed the hotel (under our balcony), apparently installing internet fibre cables. The disturbance was intermittent over three days, but hopefully future guests will enjoy greater internet access, although we found it good enough for our needs.
