I was hesitant to go on our family's trip to Mareazul as it was my sister-in-laws 40th birthday party. However, once we were there all anxieties faded away and we had a wonderful 5 days. Some additional context that may help. We had 3 apartments/suites split between 8 adults and 6 kids. One penthouse, one firstfloor with a pool, and one other. Our kids ranged from 3 months to 14 years old and most were 8 or under. We spent 80% of our time at the pool and 20% at the beach. The pool is one of the largest I've seen that wasn't at a water park, and even compared to a waterpark it was big. All the apartments were in great condition. We ate almost exclusively at the on-site restaurant and bar by the ocean. Was it more expensive than I wanted to pay, yes. Was Wal-Mart out in town also more expensive than I thought it should be, yes. I mentioned Wal-mart being expensive because I don't think Mareazul was out of the ordinary. I'm just tired of paying $15 for a sandwich at home in Boston and thought vacation would be cheaper, it wasn't. The front desk staff ranged in helpfulness. If you're going to rely on them for everything then you'll probably be disappointed. We used them in addition to directly calling places and the concierge. Yasmine was ours and a rockstar. She even arranged to have a cake delivered for the 40th birthday.

We were travelling around Mexico & were due to end our trip in an Air B&B on Akumal, however Hurricane Beryl came along and we had to change our plans! Booked this place on booking.com one day before and everything was seamless. First time in plays del Carmen & here. Arrived 3 days after the hurricane hit this area and everything was cleared & check in seamless. Property Manager gave us his email so we could contact. Booked a swim up in the 7th block - 2 bedrooms for our family of 4. Exterior a bit shabby but room is Very modern and spacious with a lot of storage, 3 TVs, 3 bathrooms, laundry room and water provided. Really nice glass frontage & blinds, a/c and fans. Felt safe - security cycle around & good locks on doors. Pool is amazing & beach access good - nice that the resort have a guy setting up the loungers first free ( we tipped him). Did have a car so it was easy to drive to cenotes, Walmart and different restaurants in playa del carmen. The resort has two restaurants - the beach shack is over priced & too high end. Pool restaurant is more reasonable but can get boring ( we ate twice). Had kitchen facilities so easy too cook. Room has a jacuzzi - but we were told it was not included in the rate so unable to use it - they removed the plug!!! A ceiling fan ion the patio would have been good. Other downside is that there is no restriction on building works so at times areas can be noisy, for our 4 day stay it was ok.

All pretty positive. Just had a few hopefully helpful pointers... more signs from the top north side needed to places such as shop and reception areas. Disabled ramps to foyer of condo building needed... fine from roadside but a step up to the entrance of building, not good for wheelchairs! Food in restaurant was very good and not too expensive, but pool bar is way too pricey!

We booked a condo at Mareazul very last minute and were pleased with our experience. The resort itself is about 10 minutes from the heart of Playa del Carmen. We did not have a car and took a taxi (300 pesos) into town twice. All of our taxi drivers were familiar with the resort. There are two layers of security to get into the resort, which made us feel safe, given we had a first floor unit (701S) near the entrance. The condo itself was spacious, with a lot windows and natural light. The decor and furniture were modern. We arrived about 4:15 pm (check in was after 4:00) and there was still someone finishing the cleaning in our unit. The cleanliness was pretty good, but a few little things like old dish cloth with stains, moldy dish drying rack, some hair in the bathroom and streakiness on the refrigerator. Some of the bathroom fixtures were a little moldy, damaged. We had a few issues - like being locked out of our condo once, not having ice trays or a pump for the filtered water, but all issues were resolved quickly when we texted the administers. The resort complex is very large and we were at the way back, so getting to the pool, beach and restaurants was a bit of walk. We ate at both restaurants a few times. The one by the beach had the best service we had during our trip in Mexico. We liked the breakfast food more than the lunch options. As mentioned in the reviews, the pool is extensive, filled with bridges, Lilly pads, levels and all sorts of fun platforms for the kids. The chairs at the beach get taken up pretty early, but the beach itself is quite private and has nice fluffy white sand. One day the beach was a little wavy and the other it was nice and calm. The resort had two tennis courts and 1 paddel court to use, free of charge, including the equipment. We did not use the fitness center, which required a "reservation" and that you bring your own towel. There are paths outside of the resort gates that are great for walking or running. We were a family with two teenagers and enjoyed our stay. I think this condo complex would be great for families with even younger kids or for multi families vacationing together.
