We love this resort and the ability to use Viva Maya as well for meals. A shout out to Luis at main pool bar at Azteca. Service with a smile all the time. We loved yoga, zumba and aqua with visiting instructors Cheryl and Freija. Great bonus and classes were well led with the entertainment team. We have been here before but never had pro instructors so we’re very pleased. The food was great ! NO complaints. The beach has had some damage but you can go to Maya and they have a gorgeous beach front. This resort is exceptional in my opinion! We will return for sure !

We recently stayed at Viva Azteca and had an incredible experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff was friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The hotel itself is beautiful, with clean, spacious rooms and excellent amenities. But what really made our stay stand out was the animation team- especially Mitchelle and Dayreth! They were absolutely amazing – so full of energy, engaging, and incredibly talented. Every day there were fun activities for all ages and they always went above and beyond to make sure everyone was having a great time. If you’re looking for a hotel with a great atmosphere and top-notch entertainment, this is the place to be! Highly recommend it and we can't wait to return!

“Stress free luxury :)”

We were hesitant about this whole vacation. Scared of the reports of how dangerous Mexico can be (we were first timers). Scared of getting sick. Scared of some of the other reviews we’ve read about Viva Azteca, as some of them are not good. We decided to go for it, and we were very glad we did. We booked our stay as a package with Sunwing tours, that included our flight, ground transportation and the all inclusive resort. Disclaimer: my husband was in Puerto Vallarta 25 years ago. My daughter and I have never been before. None of us have ever been to an all inclusive resort, so we don’t have much to compare this too. Pros: We arrived early and were welcomed with our bracelets early so we could enjoy the facilities, food and drinks. All was explained to us by the concierge, Sabrina, and Marcus at the front desk. Our room was attractive and comfortable. The air conditioning was good and quite a relief at times throughout the week and for sleeping at night. We tried the Xul-ha restaurant our first night. We appreciated the fact that unlike the Maya (sister resort), reservations were not required. All was excellent, though like most fine dining, it was not fast. The buffet at El Nopal was excellent. So much variety, from a great selection of fresh fruit, to fresh baked breads and cheeses. Almost every night was a ‘themed’ night with regional speciality dishes (I.e. Mexican night, Mediterranean Night, International Night). They really went all out for Valentine’s Day and the deserts were amazing! We found nothing to complain about here, other than that we ate too much, but that’s on us. Other than when away on excursions, we ate here the rest of the week. We also used both bars and the café during our stay. All very good :) We were able to book our excursions with a travel agent conveniently in the lobby of the hotel. For our two chosen excursions (Mayan Adventures Snorkelling and Xplor), we were picked up and returned right from the lobby. Beautiful white sand and ocean. Warmth and an escape from Canadian winter. Security and safety. There was hotel security at the entrance from the beach, and we saw the beach patrolled regularly by (heavily!) armed police officers. The gated community of Playacar seemed far safer than many places we’ve been in inner cities in Canada. All staff we encountered were friendly and courteous. Their English was very good and they tolerated my attempts at Spanish. Natural pest control. We loved the cats in the courtyard, and the fact that they just brought out a hawk and walked it around to keep the birds from becoming too much. We also loved seeing the agouti and coati on property. There is live entertainment each night. We listened to the music in the lounge a number of nights and enjoyed it. We only went one of the shows as a 9:30 start was a little late for us. It was the Gentian show we attended. I had to google it as we weren’t sure what it was. Truly amazing! Cons: The time share sell (aka the Viva Vacation Club). This was scheduled on our first morning there. We had been in Mexico less than 24 hours, yet they were trying to get us to make a 15 year commitment to the vacation club? And we never were actually quoted a price. We did get a free beach bag and bottle of tequila though. The coffee in the restaurant. Barely drinkable. But happily, we found the pool bar was open 24 hours and we could get 2 cafe negro in travel plastic cups to take down to the beach and watch the sunrise. This was very good. This is a weird one. I’ve tiled before. I’ve written in pencil on tile. When they tiled our bathroom, they did this. All the pencil markings are still there - measurements over the door frame. Not a big deal, just weird. Room amenities were not great quality (shower gel and shampoo). There was toilet paper but no Kleenex supplied. As we knew from photos before we booked, there is a serious erosion issue on the beach. But that’s nature, and I suspect this comes and goes. It honestly was NOT a big deal to walk down the beach a couple minutes to swim in front of the Maya, or closer. The ocean was beautiful and we enjoyed splashing around! We would have appreciated the same Piña Colada and Strawberry Daiquiri machine they had at the Maya. In conclusion, we loved our vacation. We were quite happy with the resort and the location. We stayed healthy, were overfed, and will happily return.

This resort is fantastic. The food was first class. The shows really well done. Giselle the Entertainment manager is one of the hardest working people I know. I have to mention some of the five star staff we met. Fernando, Carlos (Roberto), Jose, Ivan, Mauricio, Jimena and Dayreth were incredible at their jobs and making people feel at home. There was always something to do or you could just relax. Bike rental was free and there’s a great 6 kilometre trail. The gym has everything you need. There’s a great paddle ball court on the roof. Plus the bartender in the main bar Cristian makes a great dirty martini. Crescencio the waiter on the beach is so fast and service oriented. Wonderful people. Beds were super comfy. Fitness and stretch was super fun too!!! 😊
