We were very impressed with the beautiful, and refreshingly clean, modern rooms - which were fitted with aircon, full-sized fridge and freezer, oven, microwave, and dishwasher. Cutlery, kettle, pots, plates, cups etc. Also, a hairdryer, clothes rack, mop and broom - although sadly no washing machine, not that we expected one. The only real criticism with the apartment was that the toilet seemed loose and not fitted properly, so would move when used, but nothing resulted in this happening, so not a big problem. The hotel is situated right next to an abandoned and run-down hotel - fortunately, we didn't experience any issues, but it's covered in graffiti where people break into it so we were worried about issues at night - but we didn't experience any. The main issue we had with the hotel, which turned out to not be a real issue, was that we didn't know how to check out. The checkout time is "by 12pm" (actually the paperwork says by 12am which led to separate panic), but due to the flight and travel time we had to leave before 9am - however, the hotel is unstaffed until 12pm. We got up early and were in a panic about how to get to another hotel they own and back with our luggage to get to the hourly bus on time to make our flight as we didn't see how to checkout with no reception in our hotel. I wanted to call them but their other hotel's reception wasn't manned before 9am so by the time they'd be able to respond we wouldn't have had time to get to their other hotel, checkout, and get back. Fortunately, the panic was unnecessary as once I got through to someone at their other reception, they assured us we could just leave the keycard in the room and go. I just wish this was mentioned to us on check-in, and also on the papers they gave us in the room. Overall we were very happy with our stay in Villa Doris Suites, it was the cleanest hotel we've stayed in for a few years, and the proximity to some of the most beautiful beaches in algarve was fantastic. One other thing I'll mention is - transport to and from the hotel is awful - this obviously isn't the fault of the hotel. It took us around 4 hours to get from Faro Aeroport to the hotel - more than the flight to Portugal - and longer on the way back. On the way back to the aeroport from the hotel, we tried a bus outside the hotel which didn't show up to us when planning the journeys with Google Maps - which again only came once an hour. This took us to Lagos bus station (wish we took it on the arrival journey!) from which you take an ALSA coach for a couple of hours to the aeroport. There's also meant to be a train there that does the same trip surprisingly for the same length of time, and even more infrequently (no train between 12 and 4pm) - but this didn't seem to be running for our entire holiday and never showed up as a possible journey with our Google Maps planning. We researched the ALSA coach from lagos to faro, the website explicitly details that you can buy tickets on board, but after arriving we were told it was preorder only, and that the website is wrong and it would not be possible to book a ticket for today. We ended up waiting another hour for a different bus for another route, and only just caught our flight in time, despite giving ourselves 4 whole hours for the journey. It's obviously not the hotel's fault for this poor transport, so it does not factor into the actual review score, but I suggest the staff recommend transport to the aeroport, or mention the fact there was a private shuttle bus that could be booked directly to the aeroport which we read about after the fact. I can see many people missing flights trying to get to the aeroport in time if they don't anticipate the poor transport options. Again, overall we were very happy with our stay in Villa Doris Suites and would recommend staying there.

We booked this hotel based upon Trip Advisor reviews and availability, since we were fairly late in booking our Lagos hotel. Overall, we were pleased with our stay, and certainly would consider it for future bookings. What we liked: - Value. The “room” is a small one-bedroom apartment with a small balcony. We were in 505. The suite had basic furniture (Ikea-like) that met all our needs. There is a full kitchen with some basic dishes. The kitchen was far more functional than a hotel room, yet a bit spartan if comparing it to a typical VRBO/AirBNB. Bathroom was very nice. - Location, location, location. The hotel is a block (through the parking lot) to Praia Dona Ana. For us, more importantly, it is just a few steps from the beginning of the cliff boardwalk that leads to Ponta da Piedade, which we found one of the highlights of Lagos. The walk to the old town is about a mile/20 minutes. - The coffee from the vending machine in the lobby was surprisingly good, and less than a euro. Some Other notes (seen in other reviews and verified here as of Oct 2024): - The front desk is manned 1000-1800 daily. If you arrive at other times, you go to a sister hotel’s front desk for registration and keys. The other hotel is 10ish minute walk away. - There is parking beneath the building. The spaces and maneuvering room are very tight. We had a station wagon, parked under the building once for security, and then did not do that again. We got the car and in out, yet it was tedious, time consuming and bit nerve wracking for us. We used the public street parking thereafter with no issues (availability could be an issue, however we were there during shoulder season and always managed to find a spot). - Yes, there is a derelict, eye-sore building next door. It has security fencing, and we didn’t see anyone come or go from it. While not attractive, it didn’t impact our stay nor did it give us security concerns. Apparently, it’s been that way for years.

The staff were brilliant but due to an in incident with an intruder coming into the apartment I am unable to recommend staying here. The intruders managed to come across from the derelict hotel which was next door onto the roof of our apartment and scale down onto one of the balcony’s.. Unfortunately many of the patio doors did not lock which made it easy to entrance the apartment. He came into our bedroom and then hid in the utility room where we found him and managed to get him out. It was very frightening.

My wife & I stayed in room 105 for 4 nights, we paid £220 per night for a one bedroom suite with sea view. The hotel reception is open between 1200 & 2000hrs daily, although on one of our days it was not manned at all. You can contact the sister hotel by phone. There is no Bar or Restaurant on site, there is a vending machine in the lobby. Although the hotel has a pool it is very small (7m x 3m) and very snuggly fitted between the hotel building wall and the hotel boundary wall. The sister hotel has a Bar, restaurant & pool, it is 10 minute walk (uphill) from Villa Doris. The hotel quotes the distance between the two as 250m, Google maps shows it as 500m - it's a hike just to have breakfast, especially if it's raining. Room 105 is a nice, well equipped modern suite. It is on the 1st floor immediately above the delivery bay and smoking area. Our 'sea view' was from the balcony, over a carpark and around a big tree. If you look immediately inland you are looking at the overgrown mess of an unfinished/abandoned, graffiti clad building that's physically attached to Villa Doris Suites. The deliveries, the cigarette smoke and the mess did not always make the balcony a pleasant place to sit. There is a nice beach not fat away. The old town is a nondescript 20 minute walk along the backstreets. All in all, our room was a nice to sit/sleep in but not so good for enjoying some chilled holiday relaxation; it was certainly not worth the price we paid.
