Large rooms, many with fantastic views. Very large bathroom with twin sinks, separate bath, and shower. Enormous swimming pool and kid’s pool. There always seemed to be ample sunbeds available during our stay in July, however we spent most of our time on our lovely balcony. The communal areas were all spotlessly maintained. The courtyard area with a selection of bars and restaurants was also a great place for a relax and have a drink. I guess the major USP was the direct access the and beach, and fantastic sunsets over the fort. The potential down side is the location, and this is only a “potential” down side depending on your needs. Other than various stand bars on the beach there is nothing in walkable distance from the hotel. It is a couple of miles drive to the area with regular bars, shops and restaurants. The restaurants at the hotel very high end and very fish and based, consequently quite expensive. This is OK for a few nights but if you are staying for any length of time you may want to eat out which is not easy without a car. On a plus side there is free parking at the hotel. Overall, lovely rooms, great for beach walks, and sunsets, less for shopping or a lively nightlife.

“Absolutely amazing hotel, with a stunning beach and food and just the best staff ever!”
Amazing week at this Gran Melia! What can I say - the staff make the place so special; they were all so lovely, so friendly, professional, helpful, and absolutely so lovely to our little daughter. Special shout out to Juan Antonio who is just the best!!! Loved our week here, can’t recommend it more!

We know this hotel for 9 years already and come back every year. This hotel is the best for the family trips. The holiday starts since you arrive, the staff parks your car in the indoor parking, get a cold glass of cava, your kids get fizzy drinks. Red Level is the best option for families, as it allows to get drinks and food whenever you want. I would also like to point out the Spa Clarins, that I would like to recommend, me and my husband enjoyed facial massage, the kids enjoyed the indoor jacuzzi, it is amazing when children and parents can relax at the same time and enjoy what they love, but take into account that children can only visit the Spa, in the first half of the day. The visit to the beach will leave you speechless, there would always be staff that wil change your towels and bring the kids ice creams. A new bar on the roof top, with a stunning view of the ocean, is about to open, we are waiting to this it, we plan to come soon!

“The best restaurant in Sancti Petri”
I loved this place from the first sight. Perfect spot and beautiful beach, very kind service, but the main advantage was the food! You just must experience this! I would recommend this hotel both to work and spend the weekend with your family.

I really wanted to score ‘good’ for this hotel. Something between average and very good. We have stayed in several Gran Melia resorts and we have found ourselves comparing this one to other Melia experiences. We booked a Red Level Pool View room for a long stay to relax and unwind. Firstly the Pool View room had no pool view. It was at the end of the row of rooms. We had a view of a building site with tall cranes. The following day (Monday) there was a lot of noise from the site; banging, reversing beeps etc. It was not relaxing at all. We asked to move and this was done without fuss. We were upgraded to a sea view room at the front of the hotel which was better. The building works we’re doing ground works and so they will probably be going on for some time. We felt that they should be reducing these rooms if they are letting them out because of the disturbance. We did not use the Red Level pool because of this. The sea view room was ground floor and had a garden. It was quiet and room hospitality was good. Cleaning excellent and service generally fine. I do think a fresh bar of soap every day is excessive and wasteful though. Maybe put some felt pads on furniture legs in the rooms above to prevent the scraping noises when people move about. On booking and paying for the holiday we were asked if we are celebrating anything special and we informed them of our wedding anniversary date. It was also mentioned and known about by Lola at check in. We did expect something to happen, a small gesture but nothing did. It was disappointing, especially as previous Melia hotels had always made a celebration so special and personal. The pool area and pool bar is excellent. Well staffed with staff removing ‘reserving’ towels after a while so that there are loungers always available. They were so helpful and attentive. The best poolside experience we’ve had anywhere. Food at the bar is very good. The Duna beach bar is really lovely. Again good staff and excellent food. Beautiful beach and view. We loved this part of the hotel. If you want to walk along the sand there are many beach bars that also serve more simple but tasty local dishes that are generally cheaper. The beach access is great from the hotel, very scenic and we loved this about the hotel. The Red Level lounge was disappointing. Compared to the Gran Melia in Tenerife there is hardly any choice and too many sweet offerings. However there is an open bar and this is a nice touch. The Red Level lounge is not exclusive or separate enough to feel special and worth the extra expense. Breakfast here is not varied if you stay for a longer time (over a week, which we did). The buffet restaurant has more variety but less premium foods and preserves etc. service at breakfast is variable except for one day when it seemed that there was an inspection. Everything on point and then dropped the next day. The food at the buffet is quite bland but the grills are good for fresh meat and fish. Again, by comparison where other Melia hotels have restaurants included in your red level dinner bed and breakfast tariff the only option apart from the buffet is one restaurant which was a mixed experience which you have to pay for additionally. We had a relaxing time and the staff were more than willing and very kind but this is a hotel for maybe a long weekend. There are few other nationalities apart from Spanish and the staff struggle to speak English or German (I tried both). We probably wouldn’t come back but we do recommend it for the exquisite beach.
