We first visited for a week (Christmas 2011) and absolutely loved the place. We enjoyed it so much that we've regularly talked about it ever since. I decided to book a week as a surprise for my husband's birthday present, but was a bit nervous that we'd maybe exaggerated how much we loved it and could be disappointed. I shouldn't have worried though: it was even better! The Royal Level has been expanded (love the cocktail lounge!) and just makes it the perfect place for us to escape - we're rebooking for next year as soon as the flights show on the site!

We paid for a suite and AI and weren't disappointed. Our suite, 347, was fantastic and must have been refurbished comparing it with online photos. It was great having so much room and the jacuzzi was fabulous. We also had the mini bar replenished daily. The food in both the buffet restaurant and the a la carte was very good and the staff attentive and professional. I am vegetarian and could always find something to eat although labelling of all foods, not just some, in the buffet would be helpful. The grounds of the hotel are well maintained and very attractive. The only downside for some guests would be the number of steps to access some areas. We will definitely consider returning.

“Would have been 5* review but for a la carte dinner quality which was consistently poor”

Staff, room and pool area (Royal Level adults only), drinks including cocktails, breakfast & lunch were all 10/10. It was very odd therefore that the A La Carte restaurant, which should have been their jewel in the crown in terms of food, was a definite 0/10. The food was a 0/10 and sometimes completely inedible. We kept going back at first because the nationality of the cuisine changed every night and we thought it might get better but it never did. In the end we simply gave up and went to the buffet. If this was rectified this hotel would be a gem and it's a simple problem to fix.

We have stayed at this hotel many times over the last few years. The hotel is nicely located and the rooms are spacious with a good sea view. It's never been perfect but unfortunately the standards at the hotel seem to have deteriorated recently in that it no longer represents the Royal Level quality and luxury experience you would expect for the price. Swimming pools and jacuzzi are cold. Rooms are nice but bathrooms are tired and worn as are all of the towels and robes provided. Minibar (All Inc) used to be stocked daily but now only once at the start of the stay. WIFI is poor and intermittent. The worst part is that in the main restaurant (Atlantico) the food is nearly always luke warm and the choice of vegetable and fruit is particularly poor. At breakfast the eggs are cooked to order but it takes ages to get someone to cook them and it seemed impossible to co-ordinate our breakfasts so that we could eat together. Its not a 4 star restaurant and certainly not Royal Level. Staff are generally pleasant and helpful but on our last stay there were a few changes in personnel and the service was not to the standard we have received before. We have raised some of these issues with the management in the past but nothing seems to change In summary, no showstoppers and no individual issues to completely spoil our holiday but standards continue to drop in many respects and this hotel no longer offers value for money. We are not sure we would stay again unless there are significant changes. We use Barcelo hotels regularly and now believe that other Adult Only hotels in the Canary Islands offer better quality and value than Jandia Playa Royal Level. Barcelo Corralejo Bay, Barcelo Costa Teguise and Barcelo Margaritas are a better option.
