Firstly this hotel is not in Cala D’or, as advertised, but Cala Egos. 3 of us booked this hotel for a 4 night break for a 60th birthday celebration thinking it was Cala D’or. We booked an all inclusive studio apartment for 3 adults via easyJet holidays and paid £450 each. On arrival we were each given wrist bands, which doubled as room keys & a card for power in the room. We were room 203. In the main building. The receptionist who greeted us was efficient but not overly friendly. She did not explain how the €1 cup system works, or which drinks were included in all inclusive . We asked other guests for clarification. On arrival at our room, we found a bottle of warm complimentary sparkling wine/cava, but no suitable glasses to drink it. The studio consisted of a bedroom, bathroom & living area, with a solid wooden lockable door to the balcony. The bedroom consisted of 2 single beds with deep mattresses, duvets and pillows, 2 bedside cabinets with sockets , a wardrobe, with approx 8 hangers, some shelving with a safe, charged at €4 a day +€10 deposit. A dressing table with a mirror & drawers. But no nearby socket. Curtains were thick and shut out the light. The living area consisted of a day bed, with a pull out section underneath with a thin/ worn mattress with waterproof cover. 2 sheets & 1 pillow, left on the chair. This bed was not made up, and a spare duvet was found in the wardrobe but no duvet cover was supplied. We made this bed up, using the sofa cushion as well as the mattress to attempt to make it more comfortable for the 3rd adult. But it was actually quite unstable & uncomfortable. On booking we had expected 3 equal beds. As the room was sold as a studio - 3 x AD. We all paid the same amount of money. So for one of us to get a sofa/day bed wasn’t really acceptable. It’s more suited to 2 adults & 1 child. The living area had a sink, a very efficient fridge, hob ( not used) and cupboards with cutlers & crockery. A table with 4 chairs, a smaller table. Curtains were thick and shut out light. A solid wooden lockable door led to the balcony, with 4 white plastic chairs & a table. Serviceable but old & stained. The bathroom was dated & consisted of a bath with a dated shower overhead. A wobbly toilet, A sink, mirror & hairdryer. I noticed all fixtures & fittings in bathroom were fixed to the walls in a haphazard fashion, obviously no spirit level used! Towels were supplied daily if requested. They were clean, but old and worn. The water from the shower was powerful and hot at all times, but all water in the bathroom and room were salt water. Very unusual and none of us had ever come across this before in any hotel we’ve stayed in. Surprisingly none of us had problems with using this water for hair washing. The house keeping staff, tidied beds, replaced used towels & emptied bins. But they did nothing else. Floors were not mopped in 4 days. We had no washing up cloth or liquid supplied at the kitchen sink, & cleaning staff didn’t wash anything either or even wipe the sink during our stay. So we had to make do. The restaurant was acceptable. There was a good range of hot and cold foods at all sittings. Something for everyone. With some “show” cooking of fish & meats. And eggs cooked to order. But the chef did not know the name of the type of fish she was cooking when asked. Some foods were labelled but not all. And some options supplied for allergy sufferers like soya milk. Staff worked hard clearing tables and replenishing foods right up until closing time. Juices from the machine were not fresh juice. And the coffee machines were definitely not the best. It took a while to work out how to get the best tasting coffee ( 2 espressos + milk) . The outside bar/ cafe supplied all drinks, burgers, hot dogs etc at certain times. Plus cheese & ham sandwiches in cling film in the fridge at all times, with cake. The inside bar provided drinks, ( with dreadful tasting, weak cocktails made in a machine included in all inclusive! ) and also self service branded soft drinks, wines, sangria, beers ( including 0%) & coffees. The barman Eddie is hardworking, polite and always happy. The pool area, roof solarium & gardens were clean & tidy. Plenty of sun beds available after 10am, ( you put your own bed out from a pile) The pool opened at 10am and closed at 6pm, and then closed off with a netted fence. Entertainment while we were there was poor. “A live band” consisted of 1 singer. There was a girls vs boys quiz, the conga, and bingo. Which we didn’t attend. All in all it was a successful short break for the price we paid. With enough food & drink. We ate out 1 night. The location despite not being Cala D’or is good, with shops, bars , beaches, marina, buses & road train all nearby.
