near to eurostar just 5/6 mins walk we where on second floor and the stairs where very narrow and steep , room was spacious with comfy kingsize bed nice clean bedding and towels. The bathroom was spacious but had a awful damp smell . didnt have breakfast included and no tea/coffee making facilities in room but plenty of nice cheap cafe bars near only 10/15 mins walk to grand place and centre , as the railway is next to hotel it is really noisey ...ok if you dont mind trains going past 6am to 12 midnight also on a very busy main rd with all night traffic. The area around hotel is very run down but having said that we sat outside a little bar 2 doors down to hotel each night and had no problems from anyone. There are some lovely parts of belgium and only short train journey away and i,d be looking at staying at one of them next time.

It's disappointing reading the reviews for this hotel as it's clearly a 'budget' hotel and I didn't find anything deceiving about how it's marketed or at how it presents itself. I booked a room for one night in Jan 2013 through budegtplaces.com. I had read the reviews and knew that these hotels are usually located in 'working class' neighborhoods—I wouldn’t describe them as unsafe at all—just busy neighborhoods filled with locals doing their thing. I've stayed at similar places in France, England and Germany—all the same; perfectly acceptable budget accommodations a bit farther from the city center. It's amazing how many of these so called 'seasoned travelers' complain about the lack of amenities usually associated with far more expensive accommodations especially in a large European city. This is a cheap hotel with just the basics—if you know what you’re getting into, it's no surprise at all. The Hôtel Midi/Solys Hotel does not stand out from the street; there was a small sign on the window with the address. The secure lobby was well-lit, modern and spacious. The two desk clerks I dealt with both spoke English and were polite and friendly. Yes, the stairs are narrow as is the case in most old buildings in large European cities. You want wide staircases and elevators, go with one of the big worldwide chains. My room was small but comfortable and surprisingly modern. The radiator and AC unit worked, plenty of hot water in the well lit bathroom and hassle free WI-fi in my room. The TV remote required a €10 deposit but I don't watch it much when I travel so that wasn't a problem. The doors use a conventional key that you leave with the front desk whenever you leave the facility. The Hotel is about a 10 min walk from La Grand Place with a number of great shops, restaurants and bars. If you're traveling by train, the location is perfect; just exit the Gare du Midi and head north east towards the Grand Place by walking underneath the elevated train tracks. The hotel is about 5 mins up on your right, just on the other side of the train overpass. There are quite a few local markets and a bigger mini supermarket chain in the area so supplies aren't a problem. I found the Hôtel Midi/Solys Hotel a perfectly acceptable place for a cheap one or two night stay in Belgium.

“pleasant, polite reception. Truly great service. we loved the staff”
still under development and will easily rival those in the Accor group. The location of the hotel is central and accessible from all directions. Great value for money with respect to service and room amenities.
