The location is fantastic and the food at the restaurants are great as well. The Front Office and Concierge Staffs are always welcoming. Would like to extend our best compliments to Ms. Angela at the Front office for warm and helpful service, always carrying that friendly smile and going the extra mile to make our stay wonderful. In addition, we would also like to extend special thanks to Ms. Wang Shi Cong of Housekeeping for making our room clean and presentable. Feels like coming home each time we return for our stay at the Hotel.

The hardware and location is top notch as mentioned by the other reviewers. However the service (front office) needs to be improved for it to be a true 5-star. Basics like more smiles, ushering guests and helping them with their luggage to the lift lobby, more proactive in volunteering information on attractions to guests, more patient in explaining certain 'ridiculous' local regulations - like having to pay a 'security deposit' of Y1000 and you may only get it back after a month should you use an overseas credit card - never mind the stay itself costs only about Y500. Also a note of caution when using the hotel's tour service to Gulangyu Island if you're a foreigner. The guide will show the group around the island - all is good until towards the end when visiting a tea shop. They will segregate the foreigner/ non-PRC (esp solo travelers) to a separate space for 'special attention' (aka pressure selling) and wouldn't let go until you buy some costly tea leaves. My advice is to avoid entering the shop altogether - never mind what they say about being rude to Chinese hospitality by turning down a cup of tea. Trust me, you'll save yourself the hassle later on.

We had a short one-night stay here as part of a family trip to China. We arrived toward mid-evening and check-in took a bit of time as there a few of us in the party and the front desk had to scan all passports and visa pages. We made our way to the room and settled in. The rooms are quite spacious and appear newer than some of the photos suggest. Perhaps we got upgraded to a higher category, but we were quite happy with the rooms. The a/c in our room did not work very well, leading to it being quite warm and stuffy most of the night. It read 24-25 most of the evening which is a bit warmer than we like. The beds are very firm. I prefer firm beds and do not generally struggle with backaches but found it did leave me a bit stiff in my lower back and hips. Rooms are well soundproofed the bathroom has all of the amenities one would expect. Breakfast in their buffet restaurant is of good quality but is mostly Chinese items. There is very little international or Western breakfast options provided. I really like Chinese breakfast and found the taste good. They have some local Fujian and Xiamen-specific items that were good to taste. All in all this was a very good experience. Xiamen is such a beautiful city, and I hope we'll be able to return someday to stay at this hotel and explore more of it.

The rooms are huge and fanastic in terms of the comfort and cleanliness. The location is also a big plus as it's near to the major tourist spots. However the tour offered by the hotel to Gulangyu is dubious as the operator will bring customers to Gulangyu's shops (or teahouses) and engage in pressure sales especially if you're a solo traveller. The guide would take the rest of the tourists (mostly domestic) to continue with the journey and leave you at the mercy of the shopkeepers. It will take strong persistence and tons of the excuses (not enough cash money, credit card have exceeded limit, etc) to 'escape'. Really tarnishes the image of the hotel.
