A quiet place ,at last. We had a second floor room (205) , sufficiently high to see over the public garden wall and give a fine view of the castle.First floor rooms on this side would look onto stucco and graffiti. The location has minimal traffic noise ( on stone setts) ,and we did not hear any revellers. The room furnishings are almost new, in rich tones and massive varnished hardwood, which I felt very congenial in daylight, but impossibly dark at night, without the use of every single light available.Unfortunately,at least one bedside lamp must be unplugged to get any mains access for charging etc , making the room too dark to read. This could be rectified at trivial cost merely by an extension lead .Apart from this annoyance, the room was highly functional ,with plenty of storage, excellent aircon, good opaque curtains, and new beds. There is a fridge, but no means of making tea.I suspect that the Nespresso machine is seldom used, as there is a charge per dose- I have never previously encountered this. The bathroom was one of the best I have encountered in almost all respects, especially the extra deep bathtub. There is no rubber anti slip mat for use in the rather smooth bath.As with the power outlets shortage , this is another deficiency which would cost almost nothing to correct. Breakfast has good quality ingredients ,with Eillies tea, and acceptable fruit juice .The hot food consists solely of frankfurters and eggs.but this is as expected for a small hotel.Fresh fruit was abundant, and there was plenty of space in the breakfast room. All aspects of the reception, table and chambermaid service ,of which I made use, were excellent. I found the hotel extremely comfortable in hot weather.I am unsure of its suitability for a winter stay. The airconditioner appears capable of a heating mode, but otherwise the room has only a gas fireplace. It appears to be of a sealed type behind a glass panel, presumably to make it suitable for safe use in a bedroom, but I cannot verify this. I have been in ten hotels so far in 2023,and I liked this the best.

As we expected, the hotel was like a museum and art gallery with antique furniture, stain glass windows, heavy period furnishings etc. Our Deluxe room had no view at all, nor natural light, it was dark and atmospheric with a thick musty smell which by opening the window helped a little, but let in the smell of pigeon poo and flies. This mess covered the structural glass linkway and window sills of other rooms which was only about 5 or 6 ft away. The bed was firm and comfortable enough, but there was nothing "romantic" in our room. Apart from the smells, there was a cross with Jesus hanging on the wall right above the TV, looking down on to our bed! The bathroom was spacious and clean with very thin one star hotel toilet paper:-/ After walking about all day we like to soak in a bath, so we asked for a room with a bath tub. This was counter productive because the bath plug did not fit properly so we had to bathe quickly before all the water disappeared. It was "buffet" breakfast, but every morning we had to observe the written rule of asking the breakfast staff to give us soya milk which was kept hidden out of sight under the counter. He or she also will pore it into our very small cereal bowl carefully to avoid giving us too much and wastage, then it is quickly returned to under the counter out of sight again!!?? On our third breakfast, a huge blue bottle fly was feasting on the uncovered made up bread with ham and cheese. I told the breakfast staff, he quickly removed the bread the fly was enjoying. In amazement I told him politely that he must tell the owner to cover up the food. He announced he was the owner, shrugged his shoulders and said "what can I do about it"!!!!??? I said nothing more. The next morning they continued to have food uncovered at breakfast, plus the coffee machine was not working:-( Very good location. Reception staff was helpful enough. Some aspects of this hotel is bordering 4 star, but mostly it's 2 or 3 star. For a four night city break we decided it wasn't worth making a fuss at the time but felt our experience maybe of interest to others looking to visit Prague.
