“Perfect for a late arrival or early train/bus”

A good option for a late arrival or early bus/train. The bed was very comfy in a large room, the bathroom was pretty basic but fine, and the staff were friendly.

Rather than getting up before the roosters crow to catch that morning yawning 05:40 train, we preferred to travel to Perpignan the day before and treat ourselves to a mini city-trip. Hence, we needed a place to rest our heads for some hours and considering the price (a special offer at a mere €54), its location (next to the international railway station) and a private parking lot (at a reasonable price, though in a side-street), “Balladins” matched our needs. Upon arrival, we learned that breakfast was served from 3:30 a.m. onwards, which suited us just fine. The room was large enough for our purpose, clean, and conveniently equipped with a shower, free wi-fi, a TV set and air-conditioning. There were no fancy extras (such as “hygiene” or “beauty” sets), but who needs those anyway? Staff was friendly and suggested we book directly with them next time to secure a better price, making us eligible for a customer’s card and exclusive information on specials. What more can one wish? Well, no-one had put our early bird breakfast in the system, so the night janitor quickly turned on the coffee machine and cut some “baguette”. Other types of bread were no longer fresh and everything considered (find out-yourself, a gloomy room) I’d say that €8.50 a person is quite overpriced. Too many hotels tend to use breakfast to compensate low room prices, knowing that most people eat and drink little. Another drawback, though not specific to this hotel, was the air-conditioning. As we removed the digital key to leave the room, out went the lights (like), but also the air-co system (not like). After dinner and an evening stroll, we entered a hot air oven. It was needless to try and turn the tide, and open windows soon proved to be no option as local habits include drivers rushing their cars through the streets at any time of night, freely sharing their favourite genre of music. All in all, it was fit for our purpose and we may go there again – except that we may well spend our €17 breakfast money elsewhere.

“Budget Hotel handy for the Station”

Have never used Balladins before but chose it as it was right next to the Station .The hotel is in an old building and first impressions are it is quite gloomy as a result of the application of Balladins corporate colours. The room was fine beds were clean as was the room, the bathroom was a little cramped as a result of being added to an existing room but adequate. The cost per night was very competitive but was disappointed in the breakfast at €8.50 it was very basic but what there was, was of decent quality. The previous day we paid €5.00 for twice the selection. There are other option for food in the area of the station and the city centre is 10 mins walk away .It worked for us as we had an 8.15 train had we not we would have had breakfast elsewhere. The Guys on the front desk could not have been more helpful. There is free wifi and there is an arrangement for parking nearby as there are restrictions on street parking.
