Colmar is always charming, even during the summer rush of tourists. We stayed two nights in room 110 at the very end of hotel by the entrance to the underground car park (no problems with traffic noise). The room was large and comfortable, and the shower was adequate. Breakfast was good and came with our room. Be aware that the hotel books large travel groups, but this did not detract from our stay. The hotel lies on the edge of a beautiful park, and they have an outdoor bar on the park. We spent 10 Euros a day to park beneath the hotel, and it was worth it because it eliminated having to find a place to park on the street (which also costs money). We enjoyed our stay at the Mercure and would stay there again. Turn left when you leave the hotel and walk across the Place Rapp to Square Hansi. Jean-Jack Waltz, a.k.a. Hansi, was an Alsatian patriot who created both quaint drawings of children and life in Alsace (you will see his work everywhere in Colmar) and satirical and scathing critiques of the Germans who occupied Alsace from 1870-1919. Turn right (east) onto Rue Jean Baptiste Fleurent and amble down to the old town, passing the cathedral Saint-Martin (one block to the left), the Museum Bartholdi (the Alsatian who designed "Liberty lighting the World", the Statue of Liberty), the Maison Pfister and the Koifhus. Go south at this point to La Petite Venise. The Restaurant Caveau Chez Hansi (close to the Koifhus) is the place for authentic Alsatian food like choucroute garni, backeoffa and coq au reisling. If you walk north across Place Rapp and go north you will arrive at the wonderful Unterlinden Museum. The area around the Church of the Dominicans has lots of outdoor restaurants, and the church has mass on a regular basis. Spend more than one day in Colmar: you will be glad you did.

Good location, pleasant staff, clean, but room was very dated. Bathroom had moulded plastic fittings and the shower screen secured by a huge blob of builders/plumbers fixing material. There wasn't a plug socket near a mirror for my hairdryer. The one fixed to the wall in the bathroom was surely a museum piece with little power and useless for styling my short hair. Breakfast was fine, plenty of choice. I just thought the hotel was overpriced. Wouldn't stay again or recommend at the current price.
