It is all that you want if you like to stay in a wonderful modern and elegant room, have a top-notch breakfast that is more than a great Brunch experience and a wonderful elegant restaurant with a menu offering a variety of excellent selections. All of that and the hotel is also well situated on Lake Constance and in a city with charm and history.

Beautiful hotel just of the Lake Constance on the Lindau island. The location is perfect. Although the hotel is just of the promenade, across the harbour where you can catch all the ferries, it was quiet inside. We had a room for 3. Room was spacious and had a little hall which you could close off to provide extra sound insulation for a restful sleep. The air conditioning worked well. Unfortunately the room had a bit of a smell which luckily disappeared with the AC on. I am not sure whether we would manage without the AC. I think we would have to ask for a different room as the smell was way too strong. Room decor a bit old fashioned but room appeared clean. Breakfast was excellent with lots of variety. The breakfast staff differed a bit daily with some being more experienced. This however did not spoil our breakfast experience. We used the outdoor pool in the late afternoon hours. It was clean and surprisingly big enough with 1.5m depth everywhere. Enough sun-loungers and relaxing atmosphere by the pool. The reception staff was excellent and helped us a lot with our questions.

The best thing about the hotel is the location near to the interesting station, the ferry dock and the habour front. The shared indoor and outdoor pools are good but not warm. There is a notice to say the temperature has been reduced due to rising energy costs- so this is about protecting the hotels profit margin. Can store bikes in the underground garage which was a plus for us. Good cafe downstairs, no longer owned by the hotel but perfectly acceptable if you don’t want to go far for an evening meal. However, we were not impressed with the breakfast choice and other comparable hotels we have stayed in over the past 10 years have far more choice. Limited juices, no berries, at home we have raspberries, strawberries, blueberries there were none of these, no real muesli ( all contain puffed wheat), no cooked vegetables. Fresh fruit bowl extremely limited mainly apples and the odd pear. At the very least we would expect cooked mushrooms and tomatoes. We have never experienced such a small breakfast selection. Be aware that if you choose a room with a garden view, you won’t necessarily be able to see the garden. Our balcony was a solid concrete wall and unless we were standing the only view was the top of the old lighthouse- so book direct with the hotel to ensure you can choose your room. We tried to change but there was nothing available- so this goes down as the worse balcony we have ever had. Very disappointing. Every morning the cleaners knocked on the door about 8.30- we have never experienced this before. Cleaning staff usually clean later when people are likely to be out. We had to put a do not disturb sign on the door to stop them knocking before we had gone to breakfast. The staff are variable. Some lovely, other’s were disgruntled. One morning we asked for a table to be cleared by the window. The waitress cleared it but didn’t provide us with cutlery, a napkin and cup and saucer. We had to get it for ourselves- not good. Room service was rather strange. Every time I ordered some tea in the morning, I was met with, ‘but you will have to pay’. This became quite irritating. I have yet to meet anyone that thinks room service is free. Needless to say, we won’t be returning.
