As others say this is a lovely small hotel that is well maintained by the owner. The rooms are dated as others have said but the rooms are clean with en-suite bathrooms and have a balcony. The breakfast was a buffet with hot and cold items juice pastries bread and Greek salad. The directions for the hotel are ok but I was quoted €8 not €4 from the Metro station. The driver was relieving him self in the car so I decided to walk using my phone maps it takes about 30 minutes walking through pleasant streets. Travel tip - take the Blue metro to Syntagma station from the airport using the 3 day €20 tourist ticket which includes the €9 airport (round trip ticket if you your trip is 3 days or less). Watch the Greek army guard the tomb of the unknown soldier the ceremony is well worth the visit. Keeping the guards to your right turn right at the junction crossing over the road then pass the Egyptian French Italian and Portugal’s embassies then wait at the 224 bus stop. On the bus look for the 326 supermarket get off at the stop after it cross the road then take second left for the hotel. You can also take the 15 trolley bus from Syntagma to hotel get off at the same stop. The 15 and 224 bus stop opposite the courthouse (turn left out of the hotel)takes you into Syntagma in about 10 minutes and are frequent.

The Hotel Nicola is a small and modest hotel that has been maintained with pride. The rooms are slightly dated but clean. The beds were comfortable and corridors were quiet so easy to get a good night's sleep. Also, the air conditioning was effective and great at heating the room during winter time. The shower was also good and water always red hot. On the breakfast front, scrambled eggs and bacon were available which were slightly cold by late morning. These were accompanied by bread, yoghurt and fruit. Some days the hostess prepared freshly made omelettes to order, which was a nice touch. Location wise, the neighbourhood felt safe and there were some good restaurants within walking distance with Ο Μπακαλόγατος being a highlight. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay at a hotel with a personal touch - would recommend.

We booked this hotel because we wanted to stay near where my daughter is renting a flat. We were warmly welcomed in English thankfully as my modern Greek is limited to a few phrases. The staff were friendly and helpful and provided us with a map and instructions on how to access public transport. The double room on the fourth floor was clean and comfortable. The bathroom was a little dated but everything worked. For the 40 euros a night or so we were paying it was more than adequate. Breakfast had plenty of choice. No tea making facilities in the room but there is a television.

I was a little dubious before booking this hotel as it didn't have many reviews, and none of them were recent but I prefer to stay at independent hotels as I manage one myself and find that the overall quality of service is better than a large chain. We're not the sort of people who spend a lot of time in our room and generally only use it to sleep so we found it adequate, however they could do with some updating (especially the paintwork), and the safe didn't have keys or batteries which meant that it didn't work. the standard of cleanliness was satisfactory but I think additional time spent cleaning the rooms (ie dusting the lamps) would increase the rating greatly. The standard of cleanliness and decor in the bar/reception and breakfast areas was very very good, the air conditionaing was excellent, and Breakfast was good, and fresh. We had to leave very early for a tour on one day and the staff put coffee and cakes on the bar for us beforehand which was lovely of them. The staff are EXCELLENT! Very friendly - we met four staff, who greeted us like good friends every day, and with a lot of enthusiasm. There is a nice greek restaurant around the corner (do-re-mi) and a convenience store on the next corner. Taxis to the centre are around 5 euros. To summarise, it is a very basic hotel, but was adequate for our needs, and the staff really shone.
