My husband and I stayed in this wonderful hotel for a week at the beginning of October. From the moment we arrived we felt really at home. All the staff were so friendly and helpful. The room which was on two levels , although a bit dark was very large and more than comfortable. Our bathroom was downstairs, and upstairs we had a large double bed, there was also a single bed and sofa. More than enough for two people. This was always cleaned beautifully. We were staying on a half board basis. I must admit that I don't understand any of the reviews which say the breakfast was a bit samey. Every morning there was a choice of beautifully fresh pastries, cakes, cereals , yoghurts, fruits and nuts. Cold meats, cheeses, hardboiled eggs, scrambled eggs, bacon and frankfurter sausages. You could make your own toast and then there were fruit juices and all the hot drinks you can think of. What more could anyone possibly want? For the evening meal we could pick three courses off the menu which was changed every evening. Mostly the food was pretty good. Portion sizes were enormous and there was enough choice to suit all tastes I would think. No, it wasn't Michelin star cookery but a lot of thought went into the menu each day. Drinks weren't included in the price (apart from breakfast) but the wines on offer were very good. We were very happy with the House red which was very reasonably priced. Likewise all the bar prices were very affordable. We had a wine tasting trip included in our package, which was great fun and we all had an enjoyable afternoon. Would we go back? Yes, in a heartbeat we would !! Apart from the hotel this is a wonderful part of Italy to explore and spend time in.

I just concluded a wonderful stay at Abbazia Collemedio. The hotel is lovely in every aspect. The team at the reception were kind and helpful, especially Sara and Rachele, always ready with information to make the stay enjoyable. The room was spacious, comfortable, and spotlessly clean. The breakfast was plentiful with offerings of all food preferences. The lunch and dinner menus varied each day. Each meal I had was well prepared and delicious. The outdoor bar area was a nice choice for sitting outside in the evenings. The Wellness Spa was a great treat, which we used for massages and spa pool and sauna. The hotel and grounds were well maintained and all on staff seemed happy and proud to be there. The option for a shuttle to visit towns in Umbria was a wonderful option for folks who do not want to drive. We enjoyed the towns of Spoleto, Spello, Montefalco, and Bevagna. I look forward to returning to this tranquil paradise with family and friends.

We are just concluding a vacation at this destination which has been a most enjoyable experience from start to finish. The staff have been extremely friendly and helpful in equal measure, leaving no stone unturned in ensuring our stay has been comfortable and relaxing. Some specifics: We chose a Superior room over the basic Classic and this provided extra space and wonderful views across the valley towards Perugia. The room was well equipped (including a shower) and cleaned on a daily basis. We ate on a dinner included basis which was fine with the menu changing daily. As a fallback position steaks were always available with, for reference, a beef fillet offered with sides (e.g. potatoes) at €30. Wines were extremely good value starting at the ‘house’ level at €15, increasing to much more select bottles costing several hundred euro. Of special note was Moët and Chandon at €55 (£48?) while being sold in a major UK supermarket at £44 so had to have one of those! Senior waiter and sommelier Francesco was always on hand to offer more information on particular bottles considered. Breakfast was the usual continental fare, essentially more than adequate but not noteworthy. The coffee and juice machines were both disappointing and a tip I pass on is to ask any of the waiting staff to make you a coffee in the kitchen which arrives without fuss and tasting considerably better. For the record, the breakfast facility is what prevented a five star score being given by us. The outside bar was reasonably stocked but a draft lager/beer would have been welcome to provide a change from Peroni, Moretti and some obscure local beers. Michelangelo held the fort here and did an amazing job keeping all the guests happy. We decided to forego a car and used the hotel shuttle service for touring and this was successful, albeit at a slight financial disadvantage but worth the peace of mind. Despite having a late flight this evening the hotel kindly allowed us continued use of our room up to 18.30 when we left for the airport. This was priced at a very acceptable cost of €50. Other staff worthy of special mention were Sara and Rachele at the reception who were unfazed by any of our requests and the general manager who even acted as our driver when nobody else was available. So, many, many thanks to all the staff - I’m very much of the view that if you show them due respect it will be reciprocated in abundance. In summary, a great location to relax and use as a base for exploring this beautiful region of Italy - Umbria sometimes gets overlooked in favour Toscana but is unquestionably worthy of its own recognition. Grazie mille, Abbazia.
