A charming, very central and characterful building composed of several suites. Access was easy and tge rooms large and equipped with what is needed to enjoy your stay. Dante. Who appears to be available in person from early morning to early afternoon is super nice, helpful and knowledgable as you would expect. Highly recommend staying here. Dante even arranged for us to spend the day at the spa resort owned by the hotel. A serene place only 15 minutes drive. A stunning 12 metre pool which we had to ourselves.

Rome airport has great train service so skip the car. We changed platforms once to get to Assisi, rode the bus up to this ancient city for 1.5 Euro each, and had no trouble finding our room in residence San Crispino on San Anglese. Be ready for lots of steps as we averaged five miles walking each day but that is the very best way to experience this over 2,000 year old gem. Stay here for several days and see it all and the best part is getting to know the people here who are working so hard with their craft or just to please you with their service. We liked our room in the historic Residence San Crispino (7 rooms total) because we had a lot of space (except for the bathroom), great southern views of the Umbrian valley, and a warmer feel than a hotel room. It included breakfast which was a cafe across the street where Francesa and Nicoletti treated us like family, despite their limited English. A half day walking tour was interesting but not necessary as most Churches are open and some museums a small fee. Do walk to the top of the town to Rocca Maggiore and, in addition to the incredible views, if your there at noon the Umbrian valley comes alive with the ringing of church bells. And, if you are good on your feet, take a beautiful but at times strenuous walk down the valley through the 1,000 year old wood through Bosco di San Francesco. And, there is a very good Ristoranti there too! Along with the great food and wine, handmade leather and linens will be your trophies. The Saggrantino wine is an amazing varietal and all because Saint Francis needed a sacrament! And the Franceso wine is a great blend. Find Michael on the Piazza del Comune for your Leather. If he’s not there it will be his sister Jessica or his father Francesco and they will personalize your selections with a laser. Alesandro, his brother Ricardo, and their staff at Enoteca Mazzini served great food and wine (also available at their deli on via San Francesco St, Cacio, Pepee…), our pick for great pizza is IL Menestrello Ristorant Pizzeria, and just under a one mile walk out of town is La Stalla for wood fired rustic fare. To get there, exit Matteotti Square and head East bearing right as you exit the walled city through the immense gate, then enter the gravel path just on your left after the road splits. Nila, a Phd in History fluent in six languages with a passion for wine, hosts great wine tastings too so don’t miss her at Bibbenda Assisi. October was a great month for our visit with comfortable temperatures and clear skies but the weekends did have large tour groups. Also, some crafts people/shops only take cash and while that is an exception it prevented us from bringing home some great treasures.

This wonderful Residenza , San Crispino Historical Mansion, is strategically located in the quintessential Italian village. It is very close to the Moiano Underground parking structure for very easy access to your car, close to all the best restaurants and sites. The views are quite possibly the best to be had in the charming hillside town. The seven different apartments vary in layout and decor, with a few of them offering lovely private terraces, these of course, are my favorites. The two bedroom apartment has a very large terrace from which you get the most sensational views of the valley and the surrounding ancient village. Breakfast is served in a building directly across the narrow road. Service is very good and the accommodations are well kept and very clean. I highly recommend staying here and have stayed numerous times already in the past.
