“Excellent!”
We ended up here, at short notice, after an issue with the hotel we had originally booked. I was glad we had to change! The staff here are excellent. We ended up here, at short notice, after an issue with the hotel we had originally booked. I was glad we had to change! The staff here are excellent. Every time we passed reception we were greeted - and always with a smile. Violet was very helpful when I rang to see if they had a vacancy. As she promised, we got a room at the back. It was big, with two French windows out onto a large balcony. It was very quiet all three nights we were there. The room had a fridge (not cold, though) and a safe. The bathroom was spotlessly clean, though I found the shower cubicle a bit tight. Breakfast was good. The hotel is close to Porta Susa mainline and metro stations. Exit D comes up onto the street almost at the hotel door. There are a number of bars and restaurants nearby as well as a small supermarket. We went a bit further afield, to Bakery, for delicious pizza. We would definitely return.

Perfectly situated across the road from Porta Susa mainline train station/metro/bus station this hotel is also an easy 15-20 minute flat walk to both Porta Nuova and Piazza Castella. Our room was spacious, light and airy with A/C and 2 french doors opening on to balconies; sadly we felt unable to to open these due to the constant road noise, day and night. The hotel has a small but peaceful garden at the back, free of noise; a room overlooking this would have been a much better experience. Breakfast was buffet style with everything we wanted and more, although there did not appear to be any restocking once items were finished; by 0900 the selection was limited. There are several good restaurants within a 10 minute walk, and a lovely gelateria right next door.

“Comfortable, clean, convenient, and across the road from Porta Susa railway station”

I was looking for an easy night’s rest, for my kids and myself, in between an evening arrival at Porta Susa and a next-morning departure from Porta Nuova; I naturally happened upon Hotel Residence Torino Centro. With literally less than 5 minutes’ walk from the train platform to the hotel’s front desk, it could hardly have been more convenient upon arrival, while the immediate vicinity of the metro station made it a breeze to get to our connecting train the next day. The staff at reception were friendly and efficient, both evening and morning; the room, although far from modern, was big, clean, quiet, and comfortable; and the price we paid was fair for the value we got. That was, really, all I was looking for. Were I to spend some days in Torino, I’d probably choose to stay elsewhere, to better feel the local vibe, rather than the transient nature of the surroundings of a major railway station. But for an in-transit rest or anything like it, we’ll surely be back again in the future.

Booked this hotel following a recommendation from 'The Man in Seat 61' website for train travellers. It is situated opposite the Porta Susa station so could not have been more convenient. Also it is easy to reach the centre of the city on foot, walking through arcaded avenues. If you want to visit the National automobile museum just walk over to the station and take the metro to Lingotto. Plenty of places to eat in the area. Our favourites were Andrea's pizza and the nearby gelataria. Friendly helpful staff.
