“Loved our 4 days at Hotel Fontana!”

This hotel was everything we hoped it would be. The hotel is a 400 year old monastery. Our room was large compared to others in Rome. It had 16 foot high wood ceiling that was gorgeous to look at as we laid in our very comfortable beds. The bathroom was small but very functional for us. It had a moderate sized shower with glass shower doors. (I asked for a shower with glass doors as I read some showers had only a short curtain which caused water to get all over the bathroom). They obviously were accommodating. Reception staff and breafast staff were friendly and helpful. The rooftop breakfast room that overlooks Trevi fountain was fabulous with breathtaking views. The complimentary breakfast itself was plentiful and delicious and had not only pastries but also eggs, cold cuts, cheeses, olives, cereals, and oatmeal. We actually made sandwiches for a snack as we went sightseeing. We stopped up to rooftop to see Trevi fountain at night, too. We didn't order drinks, but they appeared to have a good variety. E did pay for Trevi fountain view. We could walk out the front door of the hoyel and walk a couple of steps, and there we were Can't beat the city center location. A short walk to most everything. We will stay here again.

This hotel is an old convent, full of character and right opposite the Trevi Fountain. For convenience and accessibility to the Centro Storico, Spanish Steps, shops, restaurants, taxis etc it is perfect. Yes the square gets very busy but it isn't a 'problem'. My single occupancy room was small with a single but bed (room 210) I didn't need any more than that and the bed was super comfy. The room is a little tired but really characterful. The air conditioning could be turned down to glacial which was brilliant as it was 38 degrees in Rome when I visited! I had no fountain view from my room but that was OK - if I opened the window and the shutters I could hear it and all the people. Yes it's noisy but nothing a decent pair of ear plugs can't solve. Reception staff were really friendly and helpful. The roof terrace restaurant offers a lovely breakfast, coffee, juice, bread, croissants, cold meats and cheeses, and has absolutely amazing views. The windows are completely covered over in perspex though - I'm not sure why and it's a shame as a breeze coming through, especially in the evening, would be lovely as it was quite stuffy. It can't be a health and safety thing as other roof terraces on other nearby buildings are open. Some music up there in the evening would create more atmosphere too. One thing that could easily be improved is the shower: the very thin shower curtain doesn't meet the shower tray so water goes everywhere in the bathroom and I had to use all my towels to mop it up so it didn't get slippery. Overall, this was a great stay for 3 nights and value for location is great.
