Bit of a last minute find, not central, not that easy to access, and a bit basic - but just the most wonderful stay one could imagine! It's the staff that make the stay here so good: friendly, helpful, relaxed. Great with kids too! Off the beaten track a bit, but that made the stay affordable compared to some of the sillier prices downtown. Breakfast simple, but as much as you need - and taken outside. That said, it's a cheap taxi ride to the forum and only a 10 minute walk downhill to the Vatican. Perched on top of the Janiculum Hill, it's also a great place to go see panoramic views of the city. And only a gentle 10 minute stroll to the restaurants of the Trastevere. Will definitely be going back!

I've stayed at the Hotel Residence Magnolia at least 10 times since my husband and I discovered it back in 1995. There are so many things that keep me coming back: the prices are low; it's near the Vatican; it's in a quiet neighborhood; it's convenient to the subway and just a few stops away from all the main attractions; it's close to a grocery store, which is great because there is a kitchen and dining table in every room; it's clean; the staff is so welcoming—in fact, they're like family. I absolutely love this place and the people who run it!!

“Good rates and close to the Metro Station”
The hotel rooms are plain but serviceable. More importantly, they are clean and the staff are wonderful. The Magnolia is not in the central area of the city but it is close to a metro stop and a grocery store. The advantage of this location is that it is a very quiet neighborhood.
