“An excellent start to our Italian holiday”
The hotel was spotlessly clean, a very comfortable bedroom though a separate shower would have made life easier - and safer. There are plenty of friendly staff and very good breakfast buffet. NB well-cooked bacon would be appreciated by Brits!

Prosecco at breakfast was a nice touch. The hotel bar was closed which was a shame but the bars just outside the hotel make up for this. The hotel was very clean. Not enough glasses in the room so one of us had to use a paper cup to brush our teeth.

I bought decaf coffee but there was nothing to boil water and no crockery - hence the 4star rating not 5

Sent from my iPad Begin forwarded message: From: Liz Hawthorn Date: 21 July 2024 at 17:44:07 BST To: Liz Hawthorn Recentky back from a week at this hotel with husband. It was part of a package holiday and we did choose this hotel ourselves. Sadly, this isn’t going to be a very good review because there was too much which we didn’t like. First the good part. It’s in an extremely good location on the edge of the lake at one and right in the centre of Riva del Garda, surrounded by shops, bars, and restaurants. It’s clean, a little Spartan perhaps. The rooms are certainly very bare. There’s a small plunge pool on the roof with Incredible views. We arrived very late at night and had been assured there would be a meal for us. Disappointingly this was a plate of cold meat which appeared to have been sitting out for a time as it was a little dry. Despite the hotel being made aware that I have a cheese allergy, everyone’s plate was liberally coated with grated cheese so I had nothing to eat. The only person around was a Receptionist who couldn’t help. There was a bottle of water on each table, but nothing else to drink. There were tea and coffee machines in the dining room but they weren’t switched on. I asked if this could be switched on for all of us to have a hot drink but was told this wasn’t possible. As there are no tea making facilities in the rooms, we were all unhappy about this. We were given room 119. YOU DON’T WANT THIS ROOM. It has no window, just a glass door opening onto a tiny permanently shaded balcony with a view of the bike storage. I went back down to say was there another room? No. See pics of room and view. Room was dark all the time, even early morning it wasn’t possible to sit up in bed with a cup of tea and read. We took a little water boiler with us (one of those that you stick in a cup of water) plus tea etc powdered milk, couple of old mugs. The safe in the room is free but it was too low down for me to reach. Hairdryer in bathroom reasonably good. Selection of toiletries. Strange shower. It was over the bath but on the side wall facing the shower screen so it was almost impossible to stand under it. All towels changed every day, despite us having hanging them up to indicate we would keep them. This despite literature saying they were trying to conserve water etc. Rooms were well cleaned though frequently late in the day. Comfy beds with pillow and mattress protectors. When we went down for breakfast, there were no staff around so we just sat at the nearest table. We were soon scooped up and removed to another table which we were told would be ours for the week (turned out later that this only applied to dinner). We were then presented with a menu from which to choose our evening meal. Because we didn’t fill it in IMMEDIATELY the waitress came over twice more to prompt us and tut at our delay. Breakfast was a huge disappointment for my husband. A reviewer somewhere on here wrote “everything you could want”. Not true. Only cooked food was scrambled eggs, boiled eggs and streaky, greasy undercooked bacon. Sometimes some green beans or carrots. Husband was expecting tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans, fried potatoes, fried eggs, some sort of sausage. Nope! I was happy though with good choice of fruit and croissants plus, mysteriously, chocolate cake which would have been better at dinner. The view from this room is wonderful though, right across the lake. There’s been a lot said about the food. This is of course all a matter of taste.. see pics of menus. We didn’t like the food. We thought the quality was poor and frequently over cooked. The mange tout peas arrived in a mush. However quite a few people thought it was wonderful. Restaurant staff generally pleasant though tendency to whip dinner plates away one had finished the last mouthful and immediately replace it with the next course. Definite feeling of being rushed. The pool is on the roof, third floor. See picture. It’s about 3 foot deep, you can’t swim really and about 12 foot long. There are steps up to the pool so not for anyone with mobility issues, though the steps DOWN into the pool are slanted. Ask reception for pool towels, this is not posted anywhere. There’s a toilet up there, shower and a sauna. But……you can’t get a drink up there or a snack. In fact you can’t get a drink or a snack anywhere in the hotel. Two bars and they were never open. Plenty of sun loungers though and plenty of shade. Other holidaymakers agreed they’re missing a trick here. Although there’s not a lot of space and usage wouldn’t warrant a member of staff, a cold drink machine would be welcome and I’ve even seen ice cream machines elsewhere. Big lounge, though rather soulless, bit like an empty care home. Large tv. Definitely lacking in atmosphere all round. There is nowhere to sit outside and have a drink pre or après dinner, Reception staff, with the exception of one very helpful young lady who helped me find an out of hours pharmacist, don’t speak enough English and aren’t very well informed about what’s happening locally. We enquired about a yellow boat which we’d seen called the Moby Dick. They said they’d never heard of it. We actually found it very easily the next day and had a wonderful day out for around 23 Euros. There is a toilet on the ground floor on the right as you come through the main entrance, it isn’t marked and we only found it the day we left. Do I recommend! Don’t know. Depends what you want. It didn’t suit us. Will I go back? No definitely not,
