At 1/4 the price of 5-star hotels in Mexico City, Hampton Inn is a name I trust for a solid value when the vacation won’t be centered around spending time in the hotel. I see some complaints about the breakfast—total nonsense. This is how the Hampton Inn does (free) breakfast and it’s totally consistent across properties with some regional flare. The staff was friendly and up on the 6th floor my sleep quality was really good. My only advice is that first-timers be absolutely sure that this “Centro” location is actually central to their plans. This was a last-minute trip for me, and I was a bit surprised to find that this hotel is located in what I’d call a blue collar neighborhood with prodigious traffic jams. I found that all of the restaurants and attractions on my list were pretty far to the east and that to get from this neighborhood to the more “hip” parts of town there was a 2-3 square mile buffer zone that had to be passed through.

One of the key advantages of this hotel is its location in the Historic Downtown, just 2 blocks from the Zócalo, the center of the city where the public plaza, cathedral and the national palace are. Despite some recommendations from sites and travelers to stay in the “tree-lined neighborhoods” that are more upscale, we opted to stay here in the heart of the city. There is something happening on the plaza all the time - people gathering, children playing, musicians singing, vendors selling – it’s all there, all the time. And despite the many, many people present in the downtown area, it is surprisingly clean and law enforcement is present everywhere. We walked all over the downtown area without incident, and on occasion we used UBER to travel to other neighborhoods (the process worked exceptionally well). We had a comfortable suite on the 6th floor of the hotel and were here for our entire stay in Mexico City – 10 nights. The concierges, Edgar and Alejandro were invaluable, and we would classify their service as “above and beyond”. The hotel staff was very welcoming throughout our stay and we give them very high marks. Also, the Reception Supervisor, Jocelyn Loo, was very attentive and always available to address any issues. We have already decided that we will return to Mexico City in the future, and we will once again stay here at the Hampton Inn & Suites in the Centro Historico.

We enjoyed our stay. We had two rooms, a King and a Double suite, both were very spacious and clean. Housekeeping and food staff was very friendly in elevetars, etc. Elevators were fast but stairs was also an option. Only complaint was that the beautiful balcony doors (possibly original) were thin and had a gap so sound from street easily came in. Because of the huge holiday road closures a police was on the corner whistling to direct traffic from about 6 am to 11 pm. One room also had a musty smell. Our King toom and others had windows out into hotel atrium and not the street (see photo of floor map). It honestly was no big deal, as atrium was large and has skylights but could bother some. Breakfast was filling and had variety. Plenty of chairs despite big crowds for Dia de Muertos. Location was phenominal, just 2 short, safe blocks from Zocolo square.

This hotel is in decadence and in my opinion does NOT comply with Hilton standards. I’m going to quickly list the good, bad and highlights for future guests. Good: Breakfast Superb location Security Provide bottles of water for free daily Good towels and sheets, good tv Mini fridge and microwave in the room helped good ac Personnel very courteous and attentive Good running water BAD: Ugly pillows seemed old The furniture in our living room was ripped, looked old and had a stained of some sort of liquid We did an upgrade for another room which ended up facing the street, the room had cracks on the window and it wasn’t sealed properly that all noise was coming in like we were seating on the street, impossible to sleep The restroom had some stains like liquid on the ceiling above the toilet Wall of fame mentions: my appreciation to our cleaning lady named Rosalba Lopez for keeping our room impeccable during my 8 days of stay. In summary: this hotel used to be very up to date, now a days the only good thing I can thinking is the location other than that , there are indeed better options around the neighborhood.
