This is a beautiful colonial hotel close to the main square but away from the noise. Rooms are lovely with lovely furniture and accessories. Bathroom modern and bed comfortable with lots of blankets. No heat but Gabriel will come and light the fireplace. Patzcuaro is cold in Feb in the morning so bathroom is chilly but monogrammed towels and accessories are very nice. Close to restaurants and secure parking for hotel across the street. Gabriel is most accommodating and gracious.

We very much liked Mansion de los Suenos. The location was excellent, 1 block off of the main plaza with plenty of dining options in walking distance. Our room #12 was very comfortable with windows opening up to the courtyard and a very quiet location. Our only problem was intermittent internet service in the room so if consistent internet service is required I would suggest reserving a room close to the lobby modem.

I stayed here five nights with a small cultural group. It’s just off the Plaza Grande and is well situated to explore this really interesting town. Our check in was fast and friendly, and we enjoyed a tequila-based welcome drink. My room, “Alcatraz” on the second floor, was large , but except for a tiny one opening on the inner patio, was windowless. There’s no A/C and either small plug-on units or a fireplace provides heat. My room had a fireplace but there was no kindling or matches just eight pieces of firewood. It was quite chilly the first night so the manager cheerfully started a fire for me. The room had adequate outlets, the bed was very comfortable, the hot water was slow to act but adequate, and the room was dark. Due to the lack of windows, the room was very dark-so dark that I had to fumble around to find a light switch when I needed to get up in the middle of the night. The wi-fi was really bad here; in spite of a number of routers, none of them consistently worked. The walls are thick and what’s really needed is a router for each room. I’m a light sleeper. If you also are easily awakened, don’t expect to get any sleep after 6 AM. Beginning promptly at 6, Patzcuaro’s numerous churches started calling the faithful to mass. Other than representing an obsessive gesture of religious control, these bells are totally obnoxious. Yeah, Mexico is a noisy place but bells every 15 minutes for hours at a time is a menace. I doubt that it’s any better in any other hotel in town. I started going to bed at 930 PM so I’d be rested by 6. The people who worked here, particularly Gabriel, were outstandingly gracious and kind. They really made this a welcoming hotel. The owners should be proud.

This hotel is one block from the town square, so finding shopping and dining venues is easy and convenient. However, this hotel offered little more than frustration. Wi-Fi did not work, at all, until 6am, even if you were literally sitting next to the router. A maintenance man told us we had a router above our door that needed some work, so he said he was going to get a ladder to look at it, and he never returned. NO air-conditioning. Fridge in the room did not work. Bathroom lights were out. Room smelled like a camp fire, and there was freshly burned wood in the fireplace. A fire? In July?? Room was spacious, and bed was comfortable. However, it was so warm, we had to sleep with the windows open. People waved as they walked by. No privacy!! There was no vent in the bathroom, so after a shower, everything was totally wet. Floor tiles were so slippery, it really became hazardous. SO many of these things could be easily fixed, but it didn't appear management was interested.
