San Cristobal is a wonderful place to visit and Hotel Ciudad Real was a positive part of the experience. It is the perfect location right on the square. You can walk to tons of restaurants and bars and shopping from there. The hotel has several restaurants attached and two in the hotel also. I do have some recommendations though when booking. My husband and I stayed in the king suite which I highly recommend as it has big doors overlooking the public square. Beautiful room Very roomy and comfortable. However be prepared for the noise of the square as well. I recommend that you go To the local market or Walmart (take can from out front to store) or walk to farmers market where you can find just about anything) and buy a fan on day one to drown out the noise and so you can Keep windows closed but have some coolness and drown out noise for more comfortable sleep. The temperatures in San Cristobal are comfortable so no need for air condition. It is in 60s-70s but with window closed can get muggy so a fan would help. The noise is local music and people, cars and even fireworks from the religious mass of the church. During the day it is fun to have windows open to listen to music. There are other king rooms and doubles but they don’t have an outside window. Make sure you know which room you are booking. It matters a lot. My boys stayed in one and there again you need A fan. There is no air conditioner and it can be warm with no window. The window looks into the hotel interior. I would not have liked to have stayed in these rooms. I would be claustrophobic but the boys were fine. Their room was a decent size and nice bathroom. Two big beds. Also keep in mind the hotel is not accessible at all. If you cant Do stairs it is not for you. The rooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floors and no elevator. The shower could roll into in boys room but not sure the doorways are wide enough to be accessible. The restaurants were wonderful and very pretty. And the food was good. The waiter who I think was the head waiter knew some English and was especially helpful and friendly. They all bended over backward to make us happy. The whole staff was helpful and friendly especially trying to help since we don’t know Spanish. We booked our excursions through them and my favorite was visiting the indigenous communities. They had a guide who spoke English for that. You must specifically ask for English speaking guide on these. In regards to Covid - the whole of Mexico is very stringent about Covid. All cabs and ubers require masks. In San Cristobal most people have masks inside and outside. All restaurants and bars and store required a mask for most part. And they took temperatures at most at the front door, had you sanitize hands, wipe feet on salt mat and towels and wear a mask. I felt very safe. To get back to US I had to have a negative Covid test. There is a local pharmacy on the square and we scheduled a text there or ask the hotel to guide you . It was a rapid test and required that we have our passports. The doctor completed all necessary paperwork for traveling back to the US. We will definitely go back to visit San Cristobal and I wouldn’t want to stay anywhere other than Hotel Ciudad Real.

Travel has begun in these post pandemic times and this was a perfect , centrally located, spot - it is a beautiful old historic building with lovely , albeit small, rooms. Breakfast in the courtyard very special , and the food was excellent . They have parking, if you drive, around in the back of the hotel. Prices for rooms are unbelievable ( low) as tourist areas try to bring back tourists . More than a great value, a really special stay .

“Small rooms, great location!!!”
Location is great!!! Across from main plaza, walking distance through town! Markets, restaurants, museums, store, banks, churches. Rooms are small, no drawers, just a mini closet to hang. “Excelent Lunch Menus”
I went to the restaurant, the food is great and the prices are very good. It´s a must the Stuffed Chilaquiles. It's a very tourist place but they don´t feel welcome the tourists, they don't offer any advice, even the WIFI is really bad
