The Kasbah Ellouze is one of those places of rest that evokes the charm of the past. While looking at the website, it might seem too good to be real. It however exceeded all our expectations. We drove into a quiet village up the road from Ait Benhaddou and navigated our way to the parking area. A Moroccan gentlemen helped wheel our luggage to the lobby to meet Colette. After we checked into our room, we took a walk around the back garden. Small mountain streams feed the lush oasis. It's amazing to see such a patch of greenery in the arid foothills of the Atlas mountains. The twin star of the premises are the nightly dinners arranged by Michel and staff. This might have been our best meal in Morocco. The food was traditional Moroccan, but with what I would say Modern French influence. As you might expect of an establishment owned/operated by a French couple, good wine is on offer. The breakfasts on the sunny terraces are also incredible. There are many nooks and crannies to this old Berber home. The rooms are comfortable and the bathrooms are very clean and relatively modern. However, don't be expecting five star room accommodations. The premises, environs and maybe the lovely food are what brings you to Kasbah Ellouze. We were driving from Merzouga on our way to Marrakech. I could see the Kasbah being a relaxing destination on its own with little day trips to explore the area.

“Beautiful oasis hidden away”
We arrived here after a long day in the car, we were welcomed by the hosts and treated like family. Refreshing beverages created us. its a real hidden gem. It's an incredible spot to wake up and watch the sun rise over the valley, before we were off again on our way to the Sahara.

I spent one night at the Kazbah Ellouze in October and could not have been more pleased! Colette and her husband have created a remarkably welcoming oasis in a spectacular part of the world. My room was very basic and is, IMO, due for a bit of an update, but it was comfortable and met my needs. The common areas were well appointed. The food -- breakfast and dinner -- was wonderful! Generous and tasty. :) Colette was welcoming and gracious, as were all other personnel I met who are associated with the guest house. And the setting is stunning -- truly spectacular. Highly recommended!
