We went to the hotel for a drink. First, I was turned away at the door because I was wearing black rubber sandals with black socks, black slacks, nice top. But, I was told plastic shoes were allowed. They were my travel Roemers. So, we caught a taxi to the market and I bought a pair of $7 shoes, they then let me in likely because they looked like a Guggi purse pattern. Our person and bags had to go through a metal detector in the foyer. Then I had to check my shopping bag, since no shopping bags were allowed in the hotel. If I had been staying there, the bellman would have taken it to the room. BTW, if you wish to park they scan your car with undercarriage mirrors. Then you drive into a gated area. The staff were all beautiful people. I swear we were snubbed when we asked for a table in the outdoor lounge because we had to wait a very long time for a table. The reason, we were told was because we were a party of three. Finally the lady with us said she wanted to speak to the manager and only then did the haughty young hostess seat us. We were two older women and a nicely dressed young 35yr old. Meanwhile, we toured the gardens and they was impressive. A friendly employee showed us the restaurant which used to be the riad (home) of Sultan the 2nd. It was gorgeous. Fresh flowers were throughout the hotel. There appeared to be a few lounges and restaurants in the resort, but we decided to sit at the outside terrace because in the middle of the day that is where the people were. It was crowded with beautiful people. When we sat down the table was provided with a free bowl of almonds with rosemary, and olives. My daughter ordered a Saffron Negroni cocktail and that was the equivalent of $32 Canadian. I had a lovely glass of Moroccon red wine for $30 Canadian. We were told we no photos were allowed, but to some anyway. Cats are sacred in Morocco so there was a cat eating scraps that a women from a nearby table was feeding from her leftover fish dish. It was fun to say we went to a hotel that has been voted one of the world's best. But, be prepared to be looked down upon if you are not dressed in very expensive clothing.

We tried the two restaurants at the hotel. Iconic building, nice atmosphere and good food and drinks, from the beginning till the end, everyone deliver a nice service with so much respect and elegance. We have to comeback to try the new restaurant:)

A wonderful “Grande Dame” hotel. After reading reviews I was worried it might be “blingy” and overrun by Instagrammers. Neither was the case. The hotel is gorgeous and the Moroccan craftsmanship in every detail is lovely. And staff manage visiting non residents very skillfully so guests are not disadvantaged or disrupted. With few exceptions staff are well trained and very good. The facilities, gardens etc are gorgeous and our room overlooking the pool and (hazy!) Atlas Mountains was blissful- a fantastically comfortable bed. The Sunday brunch was out of this world. The Italian restaurant was OK but not terribly authentic or atmospheric. I also think the hotel definitely lacks a smart French restaurant- I think they used to have one but have traded it for the usual Asian (sadly not Indian) sushi style food. But sitting out in the evening watching those incredibly tall palm trees and sipping excellent Martinis was heaven!
