Me and my family had a great stay in this riad for our first time in Morocco and we strongly recommend it. The best thing was the hospitality, we were welcomed in the nicest and attentive way. The rest was top stars as well - a good breakfast, a comfortable room (we had the African Suite for 4 people in the top floor with access to the outdoor patio which we loved), a central location (within 8min walk from Jemaa el-Fnaa square and through very nice traditional shopping street - and yet the riad was quiet and relaxing). My best recommendation is to HAVE A MEAL THERE! We tried what felt like a million times couscous and tagines but by far the best, best, best we had was in the riad. It was our favorite meal in Morocco. If I return, I would like to stay again. Additionally, I will prefer to book extra services through the riad's team since they know best and are very professional (not just guided tours, but a hot air balloon ride for example). ✔️ Great hospitality ✔️ Central location ✔️ Amazing food ✔️ Authentic decor

Arrived late to the property but the night manager met us at the taxi rank to escort us to the property, smooth fast check in. Room was authentic and very comfortable, breakfast was served either on the roof terrace or salon, plentiful and freshly cooked pancakes. The team are friendly and very kind, nothing too much trouble. Jamal the owner was brilliant! He helped book restaurants and taxis for day trips, he really was super helpful. We will stay again and would highly recommend this Riad in the heart of the old town, close to the squares and markets.

Situated down a quiet street, with sad evidence of the effects of last year's earthquake in other buildings. The initial impression is of traditional Moroccan decor with the layout, the fabrics, lamps, etc and it is lovely. It isn't until you stay in a place for a while that you start to notice the little things such as the chipped tooth mug, the quality of the towels in the bathroom which were thin, frayed and had a small hole or two. Some of the crockery was also chipped or cracked. The bed is one of the hardest that we have slept on which affected our sleep quality. The toilet was loose which made using it a bit of a feat, the taps on the wash basin were also quite loose and the wash hand basin and surround were never cleaned the whole time we were there. The staff who work there are absoluely lovely and very obliging, although halfway through our stay, we were confronted one evening by a lady whom we had not seen before demanding we pay the city tax and for drinks that we had already had. I would have said she was quite aggressive, but the Arabic language can sound like that to someone not familiar with the language and from someone who did not speak English all that well. I did explain that we were staying for a week and would happily pay when we checked out as we would still have drinks to pay for. It was also strange having to knock or ring on the doorbell to get in each time we returned after a sightseeing trip. The terrace on the roof is perfect for relaxing with a choice of tables/chairs in the sun or a wondefulcovered, shaded area. We spent a lot of time here in the afternoons when it got too hot for sight seeing. A jacuzzi is also available, which we did use once. It could perhaps benefit from a mat to step out onto to prevent slipping as another guest who had a child splashed water over quite a lot of the floor and it wasn't easy to see where the water was. I feel I must mention the fact that we were scammed by the riad owner. We had purchased tickets to visit the Jardins Majorelle for mid afternoon. This particular day was our wedding anniversary and my birthday so we thought it would be a really nice place to visit. As the guide books advise, if unsure, ask at your hotel how much you should be paying for taxi rides. This we did and the owner (as we later found him out to be) mentioned that there are other gardens near and that he could arrange for a taxi to take us to those, wait for us, take us on to a different garden, wait then take us onto the jardins majorelle. Again, we thought that would be a lovely, relaxing, romantic thing to do. Please note the romantic here!. We asked the cost and he told me 60, which I took to be dirham, but he meant euro. I thought it a bit expensive but as my husband pointed out, we would have the taxi for the afternoon and we didn't know where the gardens were or if taxis were available to hire there. I did not hear properly the name of the gardens, being partly deaf, and looking back I felt as if I had been deliberately misled as he muttered the names of them. My husband concurs with how unclear the names of these gardens were. I did not have sufficient cash so said I would get money from the ATM while we were out and about that morning. We hurried around the two sites we had planned to visit that morning in order to get back for lunch at 12 pm as we were being picked up by the taxi at 1pm. When I went to give the owner the money for the trip, it had gone up to 660 dirhams, but as I do have a hearing problem I wasn't sure if I'd misheard the first time, but talking to my husband later, he confirmed that we had agreed 600 dirham an was furious with me for paying the extra 60 dirham. After lunch we were taken by the owner to the taxi - something was said in Arabic to the driver. We got in and after only a few minutes, arried at some tanneries! When my husband asked about the gardens we sere supposed to go to, he shrugged his shoulders and denied knowing anything about them. The tanneries stank, really badly, but apparently not as bad as they can do. We were given a 'Berber gas mask', in other words, a bunch of mint to hold under the nose. We were taken on a tour around then into a shop. We should have known! We were then subjected to a selling experience, which we did not want and felt really intimidated when we didn't want to buy anything. In order to get out of there, my husband ended up buying a belt. We were then taken by the taxi to an area with palm trees and camels. The taxi driver wanted to take my photo infront of the camels which I declined as I really hate having my photo taken. We were offered tea, but it was obious we were expected to purchase a camel ride. We had a camel ride last year around the Giza plateau, and were not interested. It felt very uncomfotable. We then drove around the Palmerie and new town for an hour, killing time until our allocated time at the Jardins Majorelle. We determined to make the most of it and was stunning, but not the day that we had paid for or planned. Why on earth would I want to visit stinking tanneris on my birthday/wedding anniversary? it ruined our day. The hotel owner was coveniently away for the rest of our stay so we cold not discuss this with him and felt really cheated. I really want my hard earned money back but realise that I will never get it. We could have saved our money and gone to something we really wanted to see before going to the Jardins Majorelle. We pride ourselves on trying to be polite, unobtrusive and respectul guests and are very unhappy that we were treated in this manner. Because of this, I have only left a 3 star review.
