We arrived into Auckland on a Saturday afternoon from Melbourne and after picking up the rental car we drove to the Holiday Inn. When we arrived there was a line of people at check in so we stood and waited out turn while we were waiting we noticed that the staff had walked away from the desk and someone else had taken his place when we got to the desk to check in we were told that our room was ready as the housekeeping were not finished. We asked if they could please tell us what room we were in and was told they didn't know but they would give us a free drink voucher. We went around to the bar where we didn't want anything to drink and sat then decided to go and ask what time we could check in we were told they didn't know as we have stayed with the IHG group around the world we said that this was not good enough so decided to go out to find something to eat. When we arrived back at the hotel the line was still out the door so we noticed a self serve check in so we used that instead of going up to the reception desk we were able to check in and went to our room. The standard of room was what he expected at a Holiday Inn. We had a rest then went down to the bar and had a drink and decided to have the buffet dinner in the restaurant the meal was very nice and the staff were friendly. We had a good night's sleep and the pillows are lovely and comfortable that is the one thing that is the same not matter where in the world you stay in a Holiday Inn. We checked out the next morning for the start of our trip to the Northern Part of the North Island wondering what kind of reception we would received when we returned after our holiday for the night's accommodation before we flew home. We arrived back into Auckland and drove to the Holiday Inn still wondering what we would find but to our surprize the check in was what we were expecting of a Holiday Inn the lady on Reception was very friendly and managed to get us a room on the ground floor and could not have been more helpful. We again ate at the restaurant for dinner it is a buffet and the food was very nice and reasonable. I would recommend the buffet breakfast as well. Would consider staying here again when in Auckland as I think that the second time we stayed here ws up to the standard of a Holiday Inn or a IHG hotel.

“Needs refurbishment”

In need of money spent to refurbish. Carpets throughout are badly stained. Meals are very poor quality for what you’re paying. No where within walking distance for alternative meal. Staff are pleasant and pool setting / bar are positives. Suitable for one night maybe two at a push

The hotel itself is one of the better airport hotels in the area, the rooms are clean and tidy, if a little dated. Eating at the restaurant is fine, the buffet dinners and breakfasts are well stocked and the staff are great. Where this restaurant suffers is its room service. On arrival, I called and ordered the steak and a bottle of water, they had no steak and were out of still water. This led to me ordering a burger and a Coke Zero. The burger was spread across the plate by the time it got to me and they had realised they had no Coke Zero so brought me a coke instead. I decided to have room service for breakfast so ordered a peppermint tea, a banana and some cereal. The tea wasn’t in a pot, just a tea bag was provided, no cup, no water, they had run out of bananas so sent an apple and a pear. For a busy hotel it is mind blowing how they have so little food available. On check out I was asked how my stay was, I said fine but relayed their room service woes, this was met by the guy on reception laughing.
