This place seems to get a bad rap and I don’t know why. Rooms are small but perfectly adequate. Desk staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is perfectly ok. Seriously, a place smack dab in the middle of Auckland’s CBD within walking distance of the harbour for £60 a night? What more could you want? For those people who taken about the place being “sketchy” I genuinely don’t know what they are talking about. Given how small the rooms are, I wouldn’t want to stay a week, but if you have something in Auckland for a couple of days and want a place to shower and crash, I recommend this hotel highly.

We booked this hotel for 3 nights back in Feb as soon as we had secured our tickets for Pearl Jam and decided to make a 3 night weekend of it. We are solvent enough to afford better, but if you’re here for an event, intend to be out other than to sleep and really just need a cheap, secure and central place to crash with your own bathroom, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this hotel. I think a lot of the reviews on here are very unfair and are judging it against the wrong criteria. With flights, ticket prices and 3 days of spending, our criteria was cheap, central, safe and this ticks all the boxes. It was the cheapest hotel we could find, we were able to check in a couple of hours early, and we’ve had no problems. For context, we are mid 50s and have stayed in all sorts of accommodation from shared hostel rooms to really very nice hotels. This is not a 5 star hotel but for what it advertises, it’s fine and I will definitely stay here again next time I come for a concert. My advice is to read the reviews with your own needs in mind, don’t just see the low scores and run a mile. If you have a ton of luggage, this probably isn’t the place for you. Likewise if you’re here for a week and want to fully unpack. But with carry on luggage for a few nights, it’s great.

The most appealing thing about this place was the location, it is extremely central and just off queen street so it is perfect if you are needing something very close to venues or just want to explore town. The downside about this place is it’s not very up to date, we stayed in a twin studio and it didn’t look like the pictures we saw online which was to be expected, but it was very outdated and rundown. The walls, underside of kitchen cabinet, and curtains were dirty, as well as one of our bed base’s having stains on it. The room in general didn’t feel clean and the floor felt dirty and sticky which wasn’t very comforting. When checking in we didn’t receive instructions as to how to use the door keys which was initially fine, until we found out you needed to know how to use them in order to make the elevator work. The two elevators they had for 18 floors were extremely inconsistent, leaving us 10+ minutes waiting for the elevator to come down to the ground floor. At times one of them wouldn’t even open, with a fellow customer complaining about having been stuck in the elevator for fifteen minutes. We didn’t initially mind as we were only on level two and thought we could just walk up the stairs, but they kept the doors to the levels locked. For $179 for one night which we booked almost a year in advance, I wouldn’t recommend this place. If it was around $110-$130 for a night maybe I could justify the rundown state and lack of cleanliness, but the beds weren’t comfortable and it was very small for two people as well as lacking basic things like hand soap which was just odd lol. Good location, but it was a basic, outdated room that definitely needs a scrub.
