“From Trains to Terraces: How I Accidentally Became Bougie in St. Moritz”

I arrived in St. Moritz like a true VIP—via the Bernie Express. The train ride was so exceptional, I briefly considered becoming a full-time train enthusiast. But alas, I left via the Glacier Express, which is pretty much the Beyoncé of train rides. In St. Moritz, the only place to stay is, of course, Hotel Soldanella. Built in the early 1900s, it’s got that “I’m older than you but still cooler” art nouveau vibe. The moment I walked through the front door, I thought, “Wow, I’ve really peaked.” They’ve got a zoo bar and an outdoor terrace with views that’ll make your Instagram followers jealous—lake in front, snow-capped mountains looming behind like they own the place. One floor down, there’s a dining area with ceilings so high, you’ll feel like you should be in a period drama (preferably one with a grand piano, which they also have). And breakfast? Free. I didn’t realise until I left, but I mean, who says no to free bacon? On this level, there’s also a secret gem: a room with a pool table, leading into a library. So if you’re feeling classy, grab a book and pretend you’re cultured while lounging in front of giant windows. The room itself? Mini-bar fully stocked (dangerous), bathroom updated (thank goodness), and the balcony was perfect for my morning “I’m definitely moving here” thoughts. The bed? More comfortable than the life choices that got me there. Book it. Seriously. You’ll thank me later.

If the Hotel Kulm et al is out of your budget, and who can be blamed for that in this town, then this hotel has the right balance of cost, service, views and comfort. You will need to fork out for a lake view room to feel smug that you saved at least £500 night than some other hotels lining the lake but it is worth it. The hotel is beautifully clean and tidy but it is not modern and therefore retains a wonderful charm (you’ll find your washbasin inside a cupboard!). Food was excellent and looking out from the terrace bar on to the lake is worth the B&B fee alone. An easy walk to the high-end shopping streets where you can window shop, or sit in a bar and enjoy a glass of something in exchange for your left kidney is worth it…Hey, you knew what to expect when you came… albeit €50 for a return lift ticket to the mid-station (not the top), however stunning the view, was a little steep.

Just walking into this hotel and we went Wow and then it just got better and better! A lovely warm and friendly welcome at reception, a spacious room overlooking the lake with a view to die for. A modern bathroom with lots of hot water and a powerful shower, not to mention a wonderful deep bath. Super comfy bed - and I wanted to take the duvet and pillows home with me! We decided to eat in the hotel restaurant the first night and it was so good we did the same for the rest of our stay (3 nights). Really excellent food and wonderful staff. The reception staff were excellent when we needed some ice for a minor injury. Highly recommend this hotel, didn't want to leave

Outstanding! This hotel has all the history, charm, and grace of classic St Moritz with absolutely first class updated amenities and facilities. Our lake view room was large comfortable and wow what a view of the mountains and lake! Convenient location about 15 minute walk from train or easy local bus stop. Service was personable and efficient, breakfast in elegant dining room with floor to ceiling windows on the lake and mountains. Unexpected bonus with two night stay was a pass to local mountain gondolas and transport to/from. Highly recommended

“Nice hotel”
Charming old school hotel in St Moritz with views of the lake. Check in was smooth and efficient. Bar staff were friendly. Rooms were updated but we wouldn't call them spacious. Comfortable beds and quiet stay. Bathroom is a bit tight. Restaurant available downstairs.
