“The meaning of a chilled out place to rest and relax”

Wow really in paradise here, but if you like luxury, TV, shopping, glitter and glamour don't come here. Wildlife all around and a complete chill zone, so don't expect superfast WiFi as that's not what life is about. The best powdery sand I've ever seen, but take coral shoes as there are some rocks. Enjoy fabulous freshly prepared food where they cater for vegetarians really well. Chill out and forget the world around an uncrowded and quiet pool. No TV on site so sports fans beware. Met loads of people and real interactions, just like it was before Internet and TV. Beds were all large double 4 posters with mosquito nets, we stayed in the older bungalows and had the sea breeze at night to keep us cool, although there are ceiling fans and a freestanding fan provided if needed. Hot water seemed a bit limited, but not a big issue for us. Loads of space, but just an open wardrobe. Not sure what the updated rooms look like. Happy to listen to the waves crashing at night as well as Bush babies squeeling in the trees. If you take a red light headtorch you will catch them jumping through the trees. A few monkeys come visit but are no bother as they are not fed so don't come right down out the trees, just want to eat the fruit. Food breakfast is the same everyday freshly squeezed passionfruit, a plate of fruit, egg of choice, toast, pancake and a variety of either cake or croissant. I'm sure this changes depending on the season. Lunch is very reasonable and we chose the variety of wraps most days, delicious flavours and combinations and nothing was too much bother. Water - bring a refill bottle with you as they have a daily deal for water where you can fill up as often as you like from the filtered water dispenser. Staff can book trips or you can use your own agent. We went to Stone Town which the staff organised, very reasonable private tour.

When you turn off the main road and bump along the track you might wonder what you've let yourself in for, but at the end of that short track is a delightful little hideaway opening out onto the Indian Ocean with bungalows hidden amongst the trees and located around a central bar/restaurant and swimming pool. My first impression was that it is a little tired and would benefit from some refurbishment (there are signs that rooms are being ungraded) but the simple fact is that everything is there, everything is clean and tidy, everything works although hot water can be a bit hit or miss and really, when you're sitting on a sunbed, beer in hand, watching monkeys in the trees and dhows sailing by, how can you get upset by a plasterwork crack or wonky tap? The staff are all pretty wonderful: friendly, helpful, laid back but still efficient and the cooks do consistently prepare really good food, and then there are the hotel pets. There are currently 3 dogs and 2 cats. They are all friendly, all appreciate fuss and your company and none of them beg at tables. It may not be your thing and they wont pester you if you don't want them, but we really enjoyed having them there. Located about half-way between Paje and Jambiani means that there are plenty of bars and restaurants within beach-walking distance and having hired a car we found that it was a good base from which to strike out across the island. However, last but not least, this is somewhere that allows you to relax as much as you want to or be as adventurous as you dare to be. We loved it.

Really lovely staff and great food. Quiet part of the beach with no beach boys or Masai. The property could do with a refurbishment and clean up - there was broken furniture and old swabs lying around and we had holes in our mosquito net and curtain that had sticky tape over them. It was however a budget price and you get what you pay for. We appreciated the kind attention from the staff.
