“Not Near the Big Airport, but Still a Good Choice”

I chose this hotel because it was relatively inexpensive and close to the airport. Problem is, it was the wrong airport...I wanted the Ft. Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, not the small Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport 14 miles away! By the time I realized my mistake, it was too late to change (we were leaving on an early morning flight, so that's why I wanted to be close to the airport). As it turned out, everything worked out fine. We left our hotel extra early on the morning of our flight and avoided the heavy traffic that always seems to clog I-95. As to the hotel itself, we were given a room on the newly renovated first floor. The place had recently been painted and carpeted, and our room was nicely appointed. The beds were very comfortable and the shower stall was new and very spacious. I had to go to an upper floor to get ice and saw a much more dilapidated place, but it was still being upgraded. I suspect in a month or so, it will be as nice as the downstairs. There were a few downsides to our room. Our front door stuck and had to be pushed in to open it, and it was thin enough to allow us to hear noise from the hallway. The faucet in the bathroom sink was hard to control; if we were going to be there longer, I would have had them fix it. Otherwise, it was not a bad choice at all, and it's near several fast food outlets and gas stations. If you don't need to be close to the big airport, this La Quinta (on West Cyrpress Creek Rd.) is a good option.

Overall not a great experience. Not terrible but not many positives. Positives: Bed is comfortable and upgraded room with a kitchen was nice. Inside of the room is mostly new/remodeled except an older tub/shower that had not been updated, but worked fine. Negatives: hotel is a construction zone and unsightly, all the hallways are a mess. The main/front elevator is out of service so all guests for a 4-story hotel had to use a single elevator way in back, or take stairs. The wait for elevator was long and I was on 4th floor, so stairs were less convenient. My 3rd stay in the last year and Breakfast used to be great - but now it’s poor - all sugary cereals, packaged pastries, plus hot waffles. Total Carbfest and cheap sugary food, juice , nothing healthy. They used to have eggs and sausage included but they took that away, now it’s just a glorified continental breakfast. I paid extra to her breakfast included but it was of $0 value to me. Security came around both nights banging on the nearby rooms - I watched out peephole and it seemed they entered unoccupied rooms to verify nobody in room. But it was loud and disturbing at 10pm, and felt like someone banging on my door - it was disturbing and unnecessary. There was a loud fan noise in bathroom that could not be turned off. The room had a small kitchen with a 2-person tavle, that also doubles as a desk — there is no other place to sit/work with a computer and It’s not comfortable for working at all - it’s a small hard back chair and not at all a proper desk, it’s a breakfast table. I will wait 6+ months to give time for construction, but will certainly choose another hotel when I return to the area
