The staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel appears to have been renovated in the recent past and looks pretty classy; all the fittings, furniture, hardware and rugs are new-looking. The whole place (hallways and room) was clean and had no odors. Our 8th floor room next to the elevator was very quiet. The bed was firm and very comfortable and the bathroom is huge. They keep the building rather cool (~65F); and there is no room-enabled temperature adjustment. However when we inquired about the heat, they offered us a space heater which was very effective and kept us snug. Good security both inside hotel as well as parking (enclosed basement lot). The small restaurant was good and reasonably-priced with pleasant, attentive wait-staff. Total cost (all taxes/fees/onsite parking) was about $250/night in mid March. It's doubtless higher during cherry blossoms and vacation months. The hotel is on the edge of George Washington U, so lots of small restaurants available. Lincoln monument is about a 15-min walk due south.

Incredible! Luxurious beds and bedding, lots of space, FULL KITCHEN. Close to so many great places - walking distance to the Mall. But mostly the staff! They were incredibly helpful and friendly. Housekeeping was immaculate. And if you need a ride around town or to the airport or back and forth to anywhere, have them call FRED for you. Cheaper than one of those ride apps, friendly, knows the city like the back of his hand and likes to take good care of the hotel's guests. Can't say enough good about this place!

“Nice for those without mobility issues”

I have always enjoyed staying at the State Plaza Hotel in D.C. It’s right on the edge of GWU campus where my daughter attends. Be mindful, though, that if you have an injury or disability that requires crutches or a mobility device to get around, and you are not driving where your car is parked in… more

I have always enjoyed staying at the State Plaza Hotel in D.C. It’s right on the edge of GWU campus where my daughter attends. Be mindful, though, that if you have an injury or disability that requires crutches or a mobility device to get around, and you are not driving where your car is parked in their garage, this hotel is difficult to navigate. I came because my daughter was having ankle surgery and this is where I chose to stay. But the entrances only have stairs with no ramp, and more stairs from check in to the elevator. The only way safely to leave is to go through the garage, but only if you have access to a car. While we got through it, it wasn’t without some difficulty. If I had thought completely through it I would have stayed elsewhere, but being completely abled I would not have thought of these issues. Overall, I enjoy this hotel. But not if you have a mobility issue without a car with access to the garage.
